for me, Television was an ultra-important life-changer. Television was the 'bridge' between prog and punk, for me (and many). i'm not so nuts about verlaine's solo career, but it wasn't bad, either.

One of my biggest rock & roll regrets was in the summer of 1977 (The Blackout / The sweltering heat / Son of Sam).
I had the chance to see Television at a "club" in Hartsdale NY located on Central Avenue. The "club" was really a Beefsteak Charlie's. But on weekends it alternated between a Disco and a Rock venue.
I just didn't trust that Television would show up to this place. Syncopation / Vamps - Hatsdale 8/31/77

When I was a kid I didn't dig extended solos. Verlaine and Richard Thompson were the first two guitarists that really perked up my ears. Later I realized there was, sometimes, a similar tone in their playing. Verlaine could have done a great cover of Calvery Cross.
