	8:34am herb.nyc: Greg BAD RELIGION Graffin has a memoir out. He was at THAT show by X. Here: When we had seen X play, it was a real downer to me. I didn't realize it at the time, but it too was highly significant. X took the stage, but singer John Doe could barely address the audience. His cohort, Exene, was even more distraught and beside herself. She was crying inconsolably as the band began to perform. This was to be a special night because Ray Manzarek of the Doors was accompanying them on keyboard. It was a loud mess of a show, and the singers were literally wailing in disconsolation because of some tragedy that I couldn't comprehend. Maybe it was where we were standing, but the importance of what they were communicating was lost on me. It turned out that just before taking to the stage, they'd learned Exene's sister had been killed in a car crash on the way to the show. What a terrible night. And as a punk teenager I couldn't really grasp the magnitude of the tragedy. But Kerry and Gregg and Scott all agreed that it was a powerful performance. They loved Ray Manzarek too. I was an impatient punker who wanted some action and some slam-ming. I was too immature to be sensitive.

One of those contests actually pitted my ex's combo against the now famous band The Feminine Complex. The latter were slightly older and probably more polished.

	8:34am herb.nyc: Greg BAD RELIGION Graffin has a memoir out. He was at THAT show by X. Here: When we had seen X play, it was a real downer to me. I didn't realize it at the time, but it too was highly significant. X took the stage, but singer John Doe could barely address the audience. His cohort, Exene, was even more distraught and beside herself. She was crying inconsolably as the band began to perform. This was to be a special night because Ray Manzarek of the Doors was accompanying them on keyboard. It was a loud mess of a show, and the singers were literally wailing in disconsolation because of some tragedy that I couldn't comprehend. Maybe it was where we were standing, but the importance of what they were communicating was lost on me. It turned out that just before taking to the stage, they'd learned Exene's sister had been killed in a car crash on the way to the show. What a terrible night. And as a punk teenager I couldn't really grasp the magnitude of the tragedy. But Kerry and Gregg and Scott all agreed that it was a powerful performance. They loved Ray Manzarek too. I was an impatient punker who wanted some action and some slam-ming. I was too immature to be sensitive.
