Hi, Nick. Keeping the theme going or a sweet coincidence? :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03pm
Michael 98145:

Howdy, all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm
WR:

Festive sounds for holiday season !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Hello everyone!
Avatar 7:04pm
djnogoodnick:

A happy coincidence! This is my version of a holiday playlist.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm
doctorjazz:

A cool version of My Favorite Things (though Trane has the classic, non-Julie Andrews version. And just can't stand the movie/movie music anymore...).
  7:05pm
fredr:

Hey there Nick! Feeling the vibes this evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm
Mxter Baba:

it was YOU playing My Favorite Things!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

I missed the first track. But, I do love the Herb Alpert version, which appears on his great XMas album. It's pretty much the only XMas album I can listen to. I'm not sure if it's because Herb Alpert and I have being Jewish in common, but it sure helps. Happy Hanukkah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm
Michael 98145:

@drjz, high glycemic index ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm
Michael 98145:

i have seen stores selling Hanukkah gnomes ... what's up with that?!?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm
doctorjazz:

Happy Chanukah, Wendy (and anyone else celebrating). I didn't think it was possible, but I'm all Latke'd out-I made a ton yesterday, small family gathering, my sister made another ton for another family gathering today. My forehead is feeling a bit greasy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Michael, I'm a bad Jew, so don't ask me! I've never heard of such a thing, though. I have a feeling it's some capitalist bullshit.
Avatar 7:10pm
djnogoodnick:

Hello all and happy holidays whatever you celebrate.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm
Michael 98145:

no doubt @Wendy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm
Michael 98145:

few things better than fresh latkes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Thanks, DoctorJazz! Same to you. Wow, I am jealous of your latke consumption. The closest I get is frying leftover mashed potatoes in a buncha butter for breakfast. haha.
Avatar 7:11pm
djnogoodnick:

Agree that the holidays should be about FOOD and company, but mostly food.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm
doctorjazz:

I suspect it's aimed at Jews who wannabe celebrating Christmas, a "Jewish" version of the Elves (it doesn't exist in any tradition, a money grub for sure)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm
doctorjazz:

Wendy, that's a latke!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

I celebrate as many holidays as possible... but sometimes my holidays are just excuses to eat food with friends and bear no resemblance to the current iteration.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
doctorjazz:

Food, Friends, Family, what could be better? (but some of the family I saw today, I don't know...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

I guess you're right, DoctorJazz! I always figured if I wasn't crying while shredding onions on a knuckle-scraping grater, it wasn't really latkes. hahahaha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm
Michael 98145:

i'm not Jewish, but i do come from a potato culture ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:14pm
Michael 98145:

... and the holidays only ever mean gathering with friends
Avatar 7:15pm
djnogoodnick:

I was at an Italian family gathering yesterday where my sister made potato croquettes! Which I look forward to every year
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
doctorjazz:

I started out using the large grater, did draw some blood. But when I realized how long a big batch was going to take me, out came the food processor. (Bubbie would have been disappointed, but no one at the dinner table was).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:15pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Michael: You don't have to be Jewish to [fill in the blanks with whatever]. Also, yay for potatoes! One of my favorite foods, and I love lotsa foods, so that's saying something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
doctorjazz:

My house survives on potatoes and chicken thighs (not necessarily in that order).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:16pm
WR:

doctorjazz, the potato and squash latkes sounded great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Speaking of... here's a link to an ad campaign from when I was a kid that might not translate well these days. We had one of these posters in my childhood home because... guess what my last name is! fontsinuse.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
Michael 98145:

by the bye, enjoying these tunes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm
doctorjazz:

I had a potato/onion latke, big batch, and another for butternut squash-sage latkes. The family was partial to the potato, but I really liked the squash/sage ones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
WR:

mmmmmmm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:19pm
doctorjazz:

I remember that Levy's campaign.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm
Michael 98145:

@Wendy 😊
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
doctorjazz:

Cool Beatles cover!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Of course I had to look up Milton Banana on discogs because THAT NAME! I was hoping the album cover would be more fun, but I did learn -- gasp -- that Mr. Banana is using a pseudonym. Real name: Antônio de Souza
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

This show is totally festive and excellent. Thanks, NGN!
Avatar 7:25pm
djnogoodnick:

Haha yeah. Well Brazilians do love Carmen Miranda. Thanks @wendy and Doc! I look forward to Sounds Festive although I end up playing a lot of the same material every year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm

especially since it is finally beer time on our left coast

Avatar 7:47pm
djnogoodnick:

You're making me want a knish for sure (the closest thing I can find to my family's Italian potato dumplings, although those are more oblong)
  7:53pm
Andres:

Vince Guaraldi! Can’t help but feel festive. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm
Michael 98145:

Enjoying this trip thru the '60s and '70s
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
WR:

@7:18 @Wendy del Formaggio: thank you for the link. loving it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm
doctorjazz:

Everything has to quiet down for Bola Sete's nylon string guitar (lovely track)!
Avatar 7:55pm
djnogoodnick:

I'm not sure if everything he does sounds like the holidays, or the Charlie Brown thing is so iconic that it defines the holiday jazz genre now.
Avatar 7:55pm
djnogoodnick:

And yes, with Bola it's twice as beautiful. Wish they had made more music together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Oh, I'd love a nice knish right now. We don't really have them in Vermont. At least not in my part of Vermont. Waah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm
doctorjazz:

Now I want a pastrami on rye...
  7:56pm
Andres:

There’s a thesis proposal in there re. holiday jazz, Nick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Also, Nick, may I make a technical suggestion? We need more of your voice in your mic breaks. You're getting a little lost under your music bed. Maybe pot the music down, or your mic up, or both. Thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm
doctorjazz:

Good, old Jewish Deli pastrami is not that easy to get (even in Kosher resturaunts).
Avatar 7:58pm
djnogoodnick:

Thanks for the tip Wendy! I rushed my setup a little today between the family visit and the World Cup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm
doctorjazz:

What Wendy said (@7:57), voice up a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

YES! Much better! Yay!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Nick, do you monitor your mic breaks through headphones? That always helps me assess the balance between my voice and the music bed. Watching the VU meters helps, too. If my suggestions are intrusive, please let me know and I'll back off.
Avatar 8:05pm
djnogoodnick:

No! Hearing my voice in the monitor (delayed) really screws up my speech.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm
solo mon:

Hey Nick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Ugh, yeah, that would drive me nuts, too. I haven't set up my station here at home yet, and I don't know what you have at your house, so it's hard to say how you can remedy it.
It seems like maybe you're listening to the on-air signal, which has a small delay...?
But, you're on the right track as per your last mic break.
Avatar 8:10pm
djnogoodnick:

No it's my own monitor that has the delay. Hey Solo Mon!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm
doctorjazz:

cool take on Ellington, haven't heard this album!
(Got to hear Jon Hendricks once, he was really old, needed help getting on the stage, but he was still great to hear).
Avatar 8:18pm
djnogoodnick:

@doc That's amazing! I might play something from his solo take on the Joao Gilberto songbook later in the set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm
doctorjazz:

Don't know this group (Rokovic/Trunk/Inzalaco), cool track!
Avatar 8:38pm
djnogoodnick:

This is another great German record that really needs a vinyl repress.
Avatar 8:46pm
djnogoodnick:

The choo-choo train in this one really gets me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm
solo mon:

toot toot
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm
doctorjazz:

The 2 hours flew by, thanks, Nick!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm
WR:

Thank you, Nick! Great tunes! Many artists new to me, many classics! Great mix.
