I feel accentless. But, when I go home it comes out a bit more, again. The Central New York accent almoooost sounds like the accent in Fargo. But not quite.

Absolutely, Austin. Growing up in Westchester County in the Lower Hudson Region, we were closer to the Bronx accent.

I was going to say CNY accent sounds midwestern, Stoogette.

I only know a few New Yorkers (in the "larger" sense of that phrase), and the accent seems to vary a bit between them. But I can sort of tell they are all from roughly the same area.

I love accents. I wish more people leaned into them. It seems like the tendency is to loose your accent over time, and culturally, regionality is disappearing. Everyone should lean into their accents!

When I had an after-school job at a commercial laundry/dry cleaners, most of my coworkers were from NC. One woman was from SC and the North Caroliners would say, "Can't understand Essie because she's from South Carolina."

I think people come to NorCal / Pacific Northwest to re-invent themselves. (Very few people are "from" here, in my experience.) And there's a million opportunities everywhere if you're clever, so I can see why people come out here. But I think the melting pot really erases the accents.

The only times I was on the East coast, I was in Virginia, and then Florida, so I got more "southern" accents than anything. (Though Florida is it's own thing, and a college campus in Florida, even more so.)

One of my sisters went to college and lived in Brooklyn for many years. The OG Brooklyn accent was out there. I also worked with lots of folks from Brooklyn and Queens when I worked in Manhattan. You get to notice the distinctions.

@Sarcofiguy: the one thing I learned in college was that there's a lot of money floating around for students to use to do all sorts of fun things, but you have to be willing to sit through a lot of boring meetings and fill out paperwork. I went to SxSW twice, and Florida, just because I would read all the offers and talk to the clerks in offices.
