I'm not really sure what genre Atom is, now that I think about it. I knew him from the punk scene, so I always associated him in that scene, but when he would tour, it was often with other bands that were just one person with pre-recorded tracks, and that was often not exactly a match, sound-wise.

I've seen some people film him under novelty, except I think his album, "Attention! Blah Blah Blah" isn't really a novelty. I see him filed under electronic too, but that also doesn't seem like a good fit.

Should we make up a genre name for Atom? Atom-ic?

I have a TRS-80 here in the Lava Lamp Lounge... it worked the last time I fired it up. That was my first "desktop." I had a couple cheap PCs that I shared with my family (that all ran DOS), but then I got a Windows 3.1 machine my Senior Year of High School, which changed the GAME!

It's funny, but at the time, Pop Will Eat Itself sounded to futuristic to me. Now, with hindsight, it sounds VERY rooted in the late 80's / early 90's.

Still great, but... not as futuristic as I remember.

definitely Austin. There's his kooky pre-Waitresses band Tin Huey who were even more spazzy than early Devo. And I also like his solo album "The Museum Of Me" partially recorded with primitive technologies such as Edison wax cylinders and '40s era wire recorders.

I've only solo-toured. You meet a lot of folks, and you share a lot of rides, but far fewer pranks.

All the bands I moved gear for were pretty serious, so the jokes were like...we moved the van and they couldn't find it for 30 seconds.
