Strapped for this one. I saw Rivers perform a couple of times, each one in a very different context. Distinctive voice on his instrument. Distinctive composer and leader.

W00H00! I'm actually here today! Seeing Sam Rivers play (and William Parker/Mathew Shipp opening) live got me out my indie rock ghetto when I was 18. (1994)

Sadly I never got to see Rivers perform

In the GoFundMe for the book the author is listing the people as he mails out the books, to supporters and the reviewers and freebie to friends of the music. Makes interesting read. Equally interesting but lest thrilling is that as of today still less than 300 supporters. Hope some reviews kick that number up soon.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm

^ was just thinking something similar to that. so good. though it’s so different than most of the other ECMs i’d have on my top-whatever list.

I'd pick the box of the Jarrett Trio at the Blue Note.

I purchased the compltet Bandcamp output of Akchote (inexpensive for 513 albums, though I don't think I'll ever get to any big chunk of it), but the Rivers/Akchote was not part of it.

(I do own two of the tracks from a band they were in around that time, which says it is from Configuration, but not this duet)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm

It's from 1997, so not the same recording (tracks are different than the Discogs album as well).
Have to actually play it one of these days...
Avatar 8:57pm

Check the Discogs link I dropped above. The US CD came out in 1998. The track I played is the only Sam / Noel duo on the album.
