David (in London):

Ah, hi Billy, how are you? I'm usually a lone groover on this board at this time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17am
BillyLundun:

Ha! You are indeed, I haven't been over here in the morning for quite a while. I"m well doing my thing. Everything good with you?

London Calling Francky:

Wow is this a secret gathering of WFMU/Rock'n'Soul-listening Londoners? :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22am
David (in London):

Francky, yes, the password is 'Lambeth'.
Once in, boy, a garden of delights awaits!

London Calling Francky:

Sounds amazing David... a garden of sonic delights!
Londoners Unite, Billy :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26am
David (in London):

Whereabouts are you, Francky? And how did you stumble across FMU? (I'm always fascinated by how people outside NJ / NY get here).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28am
BillyLundun:

My entry was that I'm from Canada and hung out in the college radio / punk scene in my youf so woof has been on my radar for a long time.

London Calling Francky:

I am in NW London, Harrow to be precise... I got into WFMY through Yo La Tengo... I am a huge fan and I found out Ira was hosting a show and I had to find more... and now I am so hooked! How about yourself, David?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30am
London Calling Francky:

That is so cool Billy... I have also been into punk rock for decades...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34am
David (in London):

Billy, oh OK. So, what made you relocate to the Smoke?

Francky, I live in Stoke Newington. Re FMU, I first heard it on a trip to NYC in 1996 and was instantly in love. Had to hang on for the podcasting age, and then the streaming age to become a regular. Was immensely happy about that, obvs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38am
BillyLundun:

I moved here because my partner did her PHD here and we stayed because we both got employed in the education sector.

@David I remember driving through NY state on my way back to Montreal one year and being so excited I could pick up WFMU on my car radio rather than streaming!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40am
London Calling Francky:

@David, how is good ole Stockey doing?

Great, that is amazing... the streaming, the playlists, the comment boards and the decades of archives is what makes me hooked up

@Billy so funny you mention this... I did exactly that this summer 2022 while driving on the NJ Turnpike... I got so excited I could listen to it first hand on FM from inside a car haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41am
BillyLundun:

Yeah it's a weird thing isn't it! I mean it's just a radio but it's kinda amazing when you consider how dismal most of the radio world can be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43am
London Calling Francky:

agreed @ Billy and the variety of sonic stuff on FMU is huge...

do you work in HE @Billy? I do...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46am
BillyLundun:

Yep I'm an online education visual designer. I make graphs n animations to help convey "key learnings" :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48am
London Calling Francky:

Very nice @Billy that is definitely something we need! I work both on the ground and online for a London Uni...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49am
David (in London):

I first show I heard was Fabio's Strength Through Failure, and I couldn't believe he was playing that kind stuff on the radio. It was teeth-gnashing to get home and not be able to listen to it. Was so grateful when the podcasting age began.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50am
BillyLundun:

@frankcy Oh nice! Yeah I'm at the one that rhymes with rings college ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50am
David (in London):

Francky. Stokey's good. It's not the punk rock paradise it was when I arrived decades ago (but where is?), but I still love being here.
Avatar 5:52am
Rock'n'Soul Bunny:

Thanks everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52am
London Calling Francky:

oh wow @David Fabio is a heck of a mind-blowing intro to FMU...

and agreed on Stokey, i felt like that about Stokey when I moved to London also decades ago... but hey hoods change... I even like being in dull Harrow now haha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54am
London Calling Francky:

@billy amazing... I am at the one that rhymes with Minister/Sinister :-D
