Will we be treated to a certain tune that our king (my avatar) bounced around on a Hoppity Horse to? I think it was a hit...

Becky:

Ray Charles always makes me think of my Oma, who learned English listening to the radio in Oklahoma. She was a huge RC fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm
Mr. Fine Wine:

It's quite possible, DP. I do have one ready to go shortly that definitely graced our homemade dangling-mic TV cassettes.

Hello, Mr. Fine Wine and soulies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
ultradamno:

Originally called Cool Pimp, about pimps at the local dance who would be out on the dance floor to be with the girls but were too cool to do the jerk like everyone else. The Capitols were talked out of the title over reasonable fears it wouldn't have been a hit with such a connection in the material.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
Uncle Michael:

hey hey
  8:33pm
wind:

Greg g I totally agree
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm

Is there any recording of the pimp version though, is the big question...

Plastic Skeleton dancing on a string to Green Onions on Sir Graves Ghastly had me entertained for a few minutes. Still does.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm
Uncle Michael:

I played Green Onions today in a set of hits that were originally released as b-sides.
  8:34pm
Betsy O:

I do remember dancing to the Cool Jerk while in high school in Detroit in 1966,… it was a magical time to live in that city during the height of Motown!

  8:45pm
Betsy O:

@Dave Miss,… oh yes, free concerts outside Hudson’s Department Store in Downtown with the Four Tops, Smoky Robinson, Marvelettes and the Temptations,… ‘twas a fun dancing time, where we really did do dancing in the streets!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm
Uncle Michael:

Matt from NOLA you know Rubenstein's down on Charles Street?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm
Parq:

Nate, I remember hearing it on top 40 radio. I can say that about pretty much all the tracks being played tonight, which tells you everything you need to know about how much top 40 radio has changed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm
Nate K.:

"Yes that one in a million girl."

Theo:

Great choice for a concept for a show and as always your song choices are EXCELLENT!

I was ughing with the singer, man. Ugh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm

When this starts I never know if I'm gonna hear MFW talk over Young-Holt, or Barbara Acklin sing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Yes Uncle Michael. They’re going to open a boutique hotel in the upper floors of a few buildings they own around that corner sometime next year after Mardi Gras.

He never quite knows when to go "Ugh!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:50pm

Very cool. Andres Rubenstein was a fraternity brother of my dad. They were in the same ZBT pledge class at Penn in 1956. Maybe dad and I should go stay there!

Also, as a young person I thought this was an English Beat original.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm

They didn't tell Michael that Ben was a rat, and when he recorded "I'll Be There" they didn't explain the word "pact" to him.
