I didn't know Fier personally like Lurie did, but the article did focus on the (allegedly) dark/weird side of Fier’s personality, which “deeply offended” Lurie.

Mr Fab the obit of Anton Fier in The NY Times angered a lot of people, almost ignoring the positive aspects. His demise was terribly sad, an ebbing, a fading of a vital artist.
