Yet another week with a notable death on the day of this show...RIP Angela Lansbury

Hiya Dan!

Androu B.:

Buona Sera, Devon e l'abitanti dell'Ile Morricone!

As much as we would've wanted her to still be around, Lansbury's time was a bit overdue. (Strange, but I could've sworn I'd heard she'd passed on sometime earlier in the year.)

Those Trinity movies are on tubi.tv

She was high speed street motorcycle racing at the time though, right?

Angela Labsbury played Elvis' mother in Blue Hawaii 1961. Jeepers she had a long run.

And, of course, we can't forget her starring role in Disney's "Bedknobs And Broomsticks"!

Definitely a movie I remember from my childhood

Devon E. Levins:

I recently rewatched Manchurian Candidate in advance of speaking with David Amram. She was great in that as the scheming mother.

Are those Terence Hill / Bud Spencer movies any good other than the Trinity movies?
Avatar 8:31pm
Devon E. Levins:

also around the same time The Long Hot Summer

Androu B.:

According to Goofle's translator , "Piedone" means Bigfoot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm
mariano:

One of those Trinity movies has the most hilariously stereotypical "Mexican" bandit named Mezcal (of course), and when he says a few words in Spanish now and then, it's with a heavily Italian accent and it's grammatically very dodgy. I think one of his lines is "Mira que sopa más bonita que hecho" which is "Look at what most pretty soup that made."

My favorite Angela Lansbury role is Grandmother in Neil Jordan's A Company of Wolves, a serious, adult-oriented take on fairy tales and Little Red Riding Hood in particular. Perfect viewing for this time of year.
  8:36pm
Androu B.:

@mariano - That would actually translate to "Look at the lovely soup I've just made".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm
mariano:

Ooh, DanFA, I haven't seen Company of Wolves in years, thanks for the reminder! I've already got Manchurian Candidate and Bedknobs and Broomsticks in my Angela Lansbury memorial queue.

Ken From Hyde Park:

I like the part where Bambino knocks out Mezcal with a fist to the top of the head.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
mariano:

Androu: It's missing the subject, should be "...que he hecho".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
DanFA:

@Mariano, you also get David Warner (also RIP) as the father, Terrence Stamp in a cameo as the Devil, and the warden from Alien 3. Good movie.

I just watched those Trinity movies.

Thus spaghetti westerns?
  8:41pm
Androu B.:

Mariano, true, but in informal conversation, it's implied, therefore commonly said that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm
DanFA:

@Mariano, he is not in that. Are you calling Duane Barry a liar?
Avatar 8:43pm
Dutch_62:

Darn i watched this when i was young
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
mariano:

Androu: No, sorry. Nobody drops auxiliary verbs in Spanish because it would be gibberish. Since the H is silent in "he" and it's followed by an E, there's often an elision, but the vowel is always lengthened somewhat. I've also never heard anyone refer to a soup as "bonita" before, just like I don't think I've heard someone refer to a soup in English as "pretty." I mean, sure, one could use any adjective to describe a soup, but it sounds odd to me. The whole thing sounded like the dialogue was written by a non-native speaker.

DanFA: Omg, for some reason I thought the huntsman was Railsback, don't know why. Why would I have thought that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm
DanFA:

@Mariano, maybe he's just got one of those kinds of faces.
  8:53pm
Androu B.:

@mariano, I'll take your word for it. But I've heard and read some of that awful Spanish gibberish often in social media on occasion.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:55pm
mariano:

Oh, Androu, the state of Spanish texting is really grim. One of my cousins is always asking me to try to decipher texts she gets from a younger coworker from Nicaragua.
  8:59pm

Don’t go 🥺
