	👻 9:37pm Austin Rich: I used to hate the cold and the rain. I sometimes fear that a wish I made when I was 19 has come true, and the rain really has gone away. If the PNW suffers because of my folly: I'm sorry.
	👻 9:39pm Austin Rich: I really need to explore more Renaldo & The Loaf. I always enjoy it when I hear it, but I'm over hear listening to my precious Residents albums for some reason. I should move on.

	👻 9:43pm Austin Rich: It's not hard; I love the Residents, but they can get a little repetitive, and they sometimes rely on gimmicks in a way that I find a little boring. There's some stuff that sounds downright accessible at times.
	9:43pm Arvo: In my humble opinion, Renaldo & The Loaf satiate me a bit more than Residents in terms of lo-fi and strange sound design. I definitely do not miss Chicago winters. There were plenty where the windchill was -40. I love Foetus, by the way. Got to do an interview with him not long after this album came out.

	9:53pm Arvo: Currently my favorites by Residents are Eskimo, Not Available, Third Reich N' Roll, Commercial Album, Worm Wood, and Freak Show, but but none of them match Renaldo & The Loaf in terms of me being ecstatic about home recordings. I used to sell beer at football games when it was -20, and people would not be able to drink all of their beer before it froze, which didn't help my business.

	10:03pm Arvo: I love Trout Mask Replica, but I really don't think Captain Beefheart made a wrong move. I'm not an expert, but I really love his work. I discussed the inclusion of pop music with Austin, I do like the Doors, but I hope you'll see that we've got something else cooking! The one time I went to New York City, it snowed 9 inches and my show was cancelled. I did get to perform on WFMU, and also another college radio station whose call letters escape me, so I was happy. I really loved New York, but I am not inclined to be that competitive about expenses. Roy Wood is really great, I'm not a big historian, but he did some great Glam stuff.

	👻 10:10pm Austin Rich: I've probably said this before, but: seeing Ween live was the closest thing to seeing The Grateful Dead that I've ever gotten. There was a huge parking lot scene, lots of drugs and people trading live Ween tapes. Inside: lots of joints, and when the show started, tons of people started taping the show. It was very surreal.

	👻 10:16pm Austin Rich: Ween aren't bad, and are clearly very good at what they do. But I think they lost the plot after a point, and I loose enthusiasm with their newer albums.
	10:17pm Heather: I do adore the Mitch bits! I find it surprising I can't name a..... waaaait, they did the Push The Little Daisies song? I can think of one Ween song, then. Still, surprised I missed my Weendow on them. I feel like there was a time I would have been a big fan.
	10:18pm Arvo: I don't know what Dean was on about here, but the highlight track from this album has lyrics in favor of drinking beer, so maybe they imbibed a bit when writing these lyrics.

Typically I'm going for older stuff. Coel! I thought the same thing about Gentle On My Mind! That Dean Martin record was a thrift find for me, and I do enjoy it but not for the lyrical prowess...

	10:26pm coelacanth∅: someone made me a cd full of ween songs long ago and i only know i few songs besides that cd; but i do like all of it. probably 1/2 of it's parody of other songs or other artists 's work in general. pretty hilarious at times! (but i couldn't name any of the songs)
	👻 10:26pm Austin Rich: Part of me imagined Heather listening to Mike Patton, and I almost actually LOL'd.
	10:26pm Arvo: It's the histrionics for me. I will say that I did see Fantomas more than once, and also I saw Tomahawk do a surprise show when they were touring with Tool. Tom Waits 70s stuff is still gold to me, but I get into phases where I want to listen to obscure stuff just so I can have a sense of privacy. That said, I would love to see Tom Waits live.
	👻 10:28pm Austin Rich: Tom Waits live is half-theatrics, half a huge band performing something wild. The show I saw was VERY long, and he even did a small set of songs as a trio, which was all old material. Still... the show was so long I almost fell asleep.
	10:28pm Mr Fab: everyone needs to send me your crucial Ween tracks so I can add some to the Sheena stream. What little I heard by 'em sounded horrible, but they seem pretty popular round these parts so I figure they're a Sheena listener fave.

	👻 10:35pm Austin Rich: My mom loved "Heart of Saturday Night," and used to listen to it when I was a kid, but didn't like any other Tom Waits, so I never heard any, and actually thought he only ever made one album. In the 90's, when my friends were all excited about "Bone Machine," I was really confused. Too me a while to catch up. "The Pod" is my fave Ween album.

	10:37pm Barno in Akron: Bone Machine was my introduction to Tom Waits. It blew my mind. I remember that album was up against a bunch of grunge albums for best alternative album for the Grammys - and it won.
	10:37pm coelacanth∅: i like Waits when he's got pipes and stuff for percussion. never cared for much of his grumbly stuff. a soldier's things is one notable exception.

	10:38pm Arvo: There just aren't enough degrees of separation from Ween and The Bloodhound Gang for me. i need to be in a certain mood for Weird Al novelty. I like older novelty records much more. "Rains On Me" was a Tom Waits track that I considered, but did not include.

	10:45pm coelacanth∅: i'd like to hear it. the only Springsteen album i really like was a demo that wasn't meant for release; and no contest that let it be...naked is good, while let it be is ...well, pretty bad, for a beatles album.
	10:46pm Arvo: Barno & Mr. Fab: The demos are better in my opinion, but also kinda proof that the grumble thing isn't necessary. I know the grumble, I have the grumble at times too, but it's not his only voice.

A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

	👻 9:43pm Austin Rich: It's not hard; I love the Residents, but they can get a little repetitive, and they sometimes rely on gimmicks in a way that I find a little boring. There's some stuff that sounds downright accessible at times.
	9:43pm Arvo: In my humble opinion, Renaldo & The Loaf satiate me a bit more than Residents in terms of lo-fi and strange sound design. I definitely do not miss Chicago winters. There were plenty where the windchill was -40. I love Foetus, by the way. Got to do an interview with him not long after this album came out.

I used to sell beer at football games when it was -20, and people would not be able to drink all of their beer before it froze, which didn't help my business.

I discussed the inclusion of pop music with Austin, I do like the Doors, but I hope you'll see that we've got something else cooking! The one time I went to New York City, it snowed 9 inches and my show was cancelled. I did get to perform on WFMU, and also another college radio station whose call letters escape me, so I was happy. I really loved New York, but I am not inclined to be that competitive about expenses. Roy Wood is really great, I'm not a big historian, but he did some great Glam stuff.

There was a huge parking lot scene, lots of drugs and people trading live Ween tapes. Inside: lots of joints, and when the show started, tons of people started taping the show. It was very surreal.

	10:26pm Arvo: It's the histrionics for me. I will say that I did see Fantomas more than once, and also I saw Tomahawk do a surprise show when they were touring with Tool. Tom Waits 70s stuff is still gold to me, but I get into phases where I want to listen to obscure stuff just so I can have a sense of privacy. That said, I would love to see Tom Waits live.
	👻 10:28pm Austin Rich: Tom Waits live is half-theatrics, half a huge band performing something wild. The show I saw was VERY long, and he even did a small set of songs as a trio, which was all old material. Still... the show was so long I almost fell asleep.

In the 90's, when my friends were all excited about "Bone Machine," I was really confused. Too me a while to catch up. "The Pod" is my fave Ween album.
