Mir geht's gut TDK! Und selbst? Hier bewölkt & I am a bit under the weather from too much enjoyment. My OED tells me under "pawpaw": "Originally papaya, papay, a. Sp. and Pg. papaya, papayo (the tree), adopted from a Carib dialect.
Oviedo, 1535, gives papaya as the name in Hispaniola; Breton, Dictionnaire Caraibe, 1665, has ababai papaye-tree; Gilij, 1782, says that some form of papaia is the name among all the peoples of the Orinoco, that in Ottomac (Venezuelan Carib) it is pappai. From America the name was taken with the plant in the 16th c. to the East Indian archipelago, where papaya now occurs in Malay. The immediate source of the Eng. forms papa, papaw, pawpaw, etc., does not appear. F. papaye is from Sp.]"

Hola Michael of Cologne, it's cloudy here in NYC too, "hier bewölkt". Thanks for the word history. Except, the Wikipedia site says they're 2 different plants, paw paw is Asimina triloba, a small deciduous tree native to the eastern United States and Canada, plant family Annonaceae. Papaya is is Carica papaya, of the family Caricaceae.

@Pablexa™ @8:01 the clothes thing is real ! but it will work itself out (with some organisation) hopefully, yeah? Was thinking that dancing to the danci-sat shows on here might help keep you a bit warm, as a secondary solution you know? (but perhaps wait until your leg feels better though ) :)))

Yetz, thanks for that. I forgot about Eno's "The Paw Paw Negro Blowtorch" from album Here Come the Warm Jets. Wikip says that A. W. Underwood was later found to be a trickster. (And do paws paws grow in Paw Paw, Michigan?) I need another coffee...

I drove past the road sign yesterday, TDK, and I was thinking "You'll have to make the choice ..."! WP says "Paw Paw is in a rural location whose primary agricultural product is grapes. Paw Paw is named for the pawpaw trees which once grew along the Paw Paw River. However, the pawpaw trees are less common at present due to the clearing of the shade trees that pawpaws require. An experimental planting of pawpaw trees on the high school grounds failed to flourish due to its location in an open, sunny field."

@Doug in MP: Would pawpaw scones taste like pumpkin scones? The latter a favourite of mine my mum used to make.

(more WP) "A. triloba (pawpaw) has had numerous local common names, many of which compare it to a banana rather than to papaya. These include: wild banana, prairie banana, Indiana banana, Hoosier banana, West Virginia banana, Kansas banana, Kentucky banana, Michigan banana, Missouri banana, Appalachian banana, Ozark banana, Indian banana, banango, and the poor man's banana, as well as American custard apple, asimoya, Quaker delight, and hillbilly mango.
Due to increased interest in the foraging and locavore food movement during the late 2010s and the COVID-19 pandemic, the pawpaw has been referred to tongue-in-cheek as the "hipster banana"
