TuneIn Outage Outside of the US
For listeners outside of the United States, WFMU’s streams and archives on the TuneIn app have been cut off. While we try to work with TuneIn to fix this situation, you can either use our own streams at wfmu.org, or if you listen through a smartspeaker, you can use the app known as “mytuner.” For example, a smart speaker command would be “Play WFMU on Mytuner.” Some devices come with Mytuner already installed, but on other devices you may first need to install MyTuner. We will keep you updated on this outage here on the wfmu.org homepage.
Thanks @Liardner Dave: I just saw the article on the main webpage. As it is Saturday morning it is Michael Shelley time. I am able to listen on your webpage .... but not on my stereo! :(
Hi Frantic DJs (Todd-o?). I haven't been to Atlantic City in eons. I saw Stevie Wonder at the pier there in '66! Was just walking by, only a few bucks. He was great, of course.
My brothers worked for our Uncle Pete selling hot dogs from pushcarts in A.C. back whe there were only 3 casinos in operation. Then the mob came in. The story is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZLChM-
@fred von helsing: They're the only team that plays in NY, it's kinda sad that the NJ teams label themselves NY (a curse brought upon themselves?)

@lzsucks: a cool bit of history :
"There were a lot of jitney stations in Pittsburgh, located in storefronts with a pay phone. It was a perfect place for a play because you had a set and a community of players who work together and have created something out of nothing, having no jobs. They are generally older men who had jobs working in the steel mills and on the railroad. If they were lucky enough to have a pension, there was a need to supplement with additional income, so they drove jitneys. And I think they do it because they enjoy the company of each other; they have something to do and it's a place to belong. They are a microcosm of the community at large."
Wikipedia article on the Southern grocery chain Jitney Jungle (the one Eudora Welty mentions sometimes), has a section on the origin of the name. en.wikipedia.org...
I'll go ahead and note that there's plenty of confusion about it.
Looks like I *will* spend all day sitting around on my sofa listening to Frantic City and drinking bourbon. Can’t think of a better way to waste a Saturday.

Hard to do this one justice with recorded sound. Such a gd powerful tune. This mix sounds like when I record my little brother and me jamming on my phone tho
the mix issue was most likely from the live front of house engineer, and the FMU feed is whatever front of house gives them. two stages. two different front of house mixes.
Sorry to harsh the buzz here, but I just heard about Pharaoh Sanders. I know what I'm pulling out of my records after this show. May his memory be a blessing.
Was halfway considering flying out to AC yesterday for this show. Damn I should be more spontaneous. That Protomartyr set was effing good. And I freaking love Samiam. And actually all the bands in the lineup.

It's so funny how things happen...through a completely happy accident I have a great rig to listen today. A customer this morning gave me an ancient Grommes PA. Well, I happened to have an equally-ancient JBL monitor sitting out back that I thought was dead. Like it was sitting next to my shed for a year! I stopped for home for lunch to find amazingly both work-- well I hooked up the broadcast via a Bluetooth dongle, plunked down a lawn chair, and canceled the rest of the day...

@JB: We weren't really complaining about the water. We were joking earlier that as "talent," we were getting all the "purified water" we could drink. In case the chat is archived, this gorgeous song was dedicated to both the late Anton Fier and to the late Pharoah Sanders. I always say to people "music heals all" but if I'm quite honest, music also, can scoop out that festering and pus-filled wound, and let it burn in the sunlight, and then. . .maybe not healed, but not festering, either.

@chrestikins: I checked that link out. i was hoping that one of the cams was capturing the festival, But no such luck. I've also notice one of the cam's was showing a complete daylight scene. So it had to have been a repeat despite it said live.
@Mike Sin... I'm
Loving this show.Impressed that these are all original 45s. I haven't heard any scratches (or snap. crackle and pop). Am I'm I missing something? I have FOMO.
chrestikins: right, the two I saw both showed parts of boardwalk. First one showed the boardwalk and Beach during complete daylight. The second one showed the boardwalk and a portion of the pier with the ferris wheel in view at night . So my point was, one was showing a rerun, And the second one was live. Boy that was a long boring piece of info. Just in case you were, don't bother with a reply, just let it lie.
Just walked into my house, FMU is already on the speaker. Hear Major Lance and I said out loud, This has to be Matt Clarke haha. SO CLOSE! What’s good, Mike Sin?
I love the D4 Discwasher! I did find a crazy deal on a Project VC-S2 ALU vacuum vinyl cleaner...and jumped on it. I use it along with the D4. I've brought new and old vinyl back to life, and was lucky enough to pin one down for about 70% off. They are pricey, but having used it for a while now, I would buy one now having the knowledge of what it is capable of!

I just bought tickets (literally moments ago) for three shows in Montclair, NJ in one motion. All through outpostintheburbs.org. Great organization that I was fixing on doing some volunteer work for just when my dad had his stroke at the end of 2019. They don't only serve the community through the arts, but also do a lot of outreach in the sense of housing and feeding those in need. Most shows are at a beautiful church in Montclair, where I saw Richard Thompson just before the pandemic. The shows: Jonathan Richman w/ Tommy Larkin on drums 10/15, Beth Orton 11/3, Richard Thompson 1/14. Come join me, WoofMoo friends and beyond!
