@Cal - There are no less than three Ellie Greenwich/Mike Rashkow songs on the Hardy Boys album!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:20pm
Brian in UK:

Erica, it has been a year for big things happening. The effect over here is appreciation of work well done. Bring a monarch is not a job. Humility is the biggest part of it. And QE11 did it well.

CalZone!:

Whoa, LG...never noticed...need to pull that outta my stacks and give it a closer examination!

Hi Dawn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
Little Danny:

you ever gone to the keystone record convention outside of lancaster, larry? spent some quality time there last sunday, found some 45s...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
Funky16Corners:

This is the 45
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
Funky16Corners:

@Danny - I have not. Good stuff?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
Brian in UK:

Larry, nice one. My theory is that someone has to be poplar at any one time and at that time it was Oasis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
Funky16Corners:

@Brian - You know i love me some English rock, but I cannot abide Oasis.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
Brian in UK:

Free Design never made it over here to my knowledge; though they are highly thought of.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm
Little Danny:

@larry: it took some digging, but yes - highlight was finding a copy of the del-cords "just a little misunderstanding" if you know that one, it's a harrisburg thing... we'll talk 45s off-line some time :)
Avatar 3:31pm
dawneden:

Gosh, it's unfortunate how that cymbal on the verse of this tune sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
Funky16Corners:

@Danny - I have that one! Found it in central NJ, though
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:32pm

Larry; Oasis = Emperors New Clothes.

Indeed I do! :-) xo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Little Danny:

it's sooo good! (also picked up a 45 copy of sagittarius's "truth is not real"; the millennium track you played is what made even think to ask you about the PA record show.)
Avatar 3:36pm
dawneden:

I never noticed before that the Collage adds a ragtimey "Virginia Day"-type break to this song. They also cut "Virginia Day's Ragtime Memories" on a single if memory serves.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Funky16Corners:

This song was also recorded by Sagittarius
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
Funky16Corners:

@Dawn - That one is on the album, too
Avatar 3:38pm

Paul Williams?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm

@Erica - Yes, with the Holy Mackerel

CalZone!:

Ron Hinklin singers on this one, methinks?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Brian in UK:

@dawneden this is a shot in the dark but did you ever write articles for Mojo referencing Nirvana UK?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
Funky16Corners:

@Cal - On the Anita Kerr?
  3:43pm
CalZone!:

@Larry, yes...I believe the AK singers were Hinklins crew at that point
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm
Funky16Corners:

It's certainly possible, though the LP only credits the Anita Kerr Singers
Avatar 3:45pm
dawneden:

Don Meehan! Yes! His version of "Gaslight" is amazing! You know, he did all the vocals on his singles, if memory serves.

Also, Meehan was the engineer for the first-ever US (Sony Music Special Products) CD of the Millennium's Begin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm
Funky16Corners:

@Dawn - I did not know that. I initially knew that song via the version by Chris and Peter Allen from Australia
Avatar 3:46pm
dawneden:

Funny, this is the same song and perhaps even the same track as the Raiders' "Pontiac GTO"!
  3:47pm
CalZone!:

Wikipedia says Hicklin was Kerr singers...mentioned
Avatar 3:47pm
Erica:

Ford. It's the going thing.
Avatar 3:47pm
dawneden:

Oh, neat, I'll have to look up the Chris and Peter Allen version. (Do you mean "Gaslight" or "Silent Symphony"?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm
Funky16Corners:

The Going Thing were put together by Ford to promote their cars. There's even a Going Thing TV special with Phyllis Diller!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm
Funky16Corners:

@Dawn - Silent Symphony. The Chris and Peter Allen LP is great!
Avatar 3:48pm

Thanks for the tip! I'll seek it out.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
Funky16Corners:

@Cal - I love Glen Campbell's version
Avatar 3:50pm

Wow, I never heard this Cookies track. Is that Margaret Ross on lead vocals? Such a beautiful and evocative voice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm
Funky16Corners:

Not sure. Both sides of this are amazing, produced by the Tokens
Avatar 4:00pm
dawneden:

Interestingly I see it's arranged by "J. Hamiph"--a Tokens pseudonym. That was when the band included the great Brute Force!
The B-side, "Wounded," is amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm
Funky16Corners:

Brute Force contributed to their It's a Happening World album
Avatar 4:09pm
dawneden:

Yes, a great album!

I'd never heard this Jackie and Roy track. Interesting! It sounds like Artie Schroeck is channeling Sagittarius's "Another Time."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
Funky16Corners:

It's a non-LP 45. Both sides great (The flip is a Kenny Rankin composition)
  4:19pm

Vinnie was on that last track!

Yes after previewing some other tracks I am not hearing any signature Vinnie licks; probably not him on the 4 King Cousins. I stand corrected.
Avatar 4:27pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm

@Danny - His second album is good, too, but the first one has a bunch of English guys on it and the playing is great. He collaborated with Robert John on a lot of songs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm

@Erica - SOFT and sunshine pop...
Avatar 4:35pm
Erica:

The Summer Snow are great! I tracked down their singer and he has some very nice unreleased demos, if anyone's interested in putting them out. He's the lead singer on Something Young's "Oh, Don't Come Crying Back to Me" (singing dual lead with Curt Boettcher, I believe).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm
Funky16Corners:

He sure sounds like Curt on that track!
