Isn't Themes a sublabel of KPM?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I did sociology at college and my lecturer was taught by Laurie Taylor, who always claimed that this was NOT him. But my lecturer said it absolutely 1000% was ;-)

From What I can gather KPM have put out a few compilations of THemes International material: I think because it's all owned by Universal or someone like that and KPM is a more recognisable name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Dom - It's all about 70s radicals and the middle classes :-)
Avatar 3:08pm

Opps see? Satire. Yes good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm

@Darryl - They're not easy to track down, certainly not as easy as KPM, but I'm gradually building up a collection :-)
Avatar 3:11pm

I've just had a bit of a Google: apparently Themes International and KPM were once owned by EMI Publishing, but now they both operate as KPM
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Darryl - Aha!! I knew about the EMI part but not the KPM/TIM connection! Thank you for that :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm

WM:

There is a great poem, very appropriate for the season: September Sun 1947 by David Gascoyne. I'm making a point of reading it aloud at least once every day this month. You can find the text at:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@WM - Are you WMSagittarius by the way? :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

@WM: striking poem indeed. Reminds me a little of some fo the poems by Hendrik Marsman, a Dutch poet.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

See? No air raid sirens this week :-)

Mr Fab:

Hi hi GG! After exploring The Production Musics Of Many Lands, playing the Hawk is a bit like getting back your roots, eh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - Absolutely!!! He's the reason I started this show <3
  3:23pm
WM:

September Sun: 1947
by David Gascoyne

Magnificent strong sun! in these last days
So prodigally generous of pristine light
That’s wasted only by men’s sight who will not see
And by self-darkened spirits from whose night
Can rise no longer orison or praise:

Let us consume in fire unfed like yours
And may the quickened gold within me come
To mintage in due season, and not be
Transmuted to no better end than dumb
And self-sufficient usury. These days and years

May bring the sudden call to harvesting,
When if the fields Man labours only yield
Glitter and husks, then with an angrier sun may He
Who first with His gold seed the sightless field
Of Chaos planted, all our trash to cinders bring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@WM - It's a truly glorious poem <3
Avatar 3:25pm
Domenic:

His music is very pleasant. Have many of these Themes in digital.. too much to listen to, so this is the best place.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Just an FYI - we've got a thunderstorm brewing here. Hopefully the stream holds!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Dom - Thank you :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

The internets are going through tubes. So it must be safe from the thunders.
Avatar 3:26pm
Mr Fab:

Tho i'm afraid to pronounce Gerd's last name, I will say how that track lives up to the awesomeness of its' song and album title.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@PK - And we have The Power Of Sheena :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - It was funk and then some :-)
  3:27pm
WM:

No, I'm not WMSagittarius. I'm a Taurus, and anyway I don't believe in astrology.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Fun Fact: Mike Moran was the UK entry to the Eurovision Song Contest in the 70s (with Lyndsey De Paul) and came second :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@WM - Aha! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

@ Mr. Fab: The umlaut makes it sound like kuck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Okay ... when I said "thunderstorm", what I meant was "all hell breaking loose". Eeek!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

I haven't had a proper thunderstorm over here in ages, really. one flash, a smal rumble and that is mostly it. quite underwhelming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@PK - We've had one every single night for the last four days ... I can send you one if you like? Lol
Avatar 3:30pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I live on the fifth floor of a ten storey block of flats and the rain and wind is currently battering the building. Plus REALLY loud thunder and lightning that looks like floodlights in the sky. Scary!!
  3:34pm
WM:

There is a story behind the poem. At some point Gascoyne had a breakdown and was staying at a sanatorium. One of the nurses thought it would be therapeutic to read poetry aloud to the patients. One day she read September Sun: 1947 without knowing who David Gascoyne was. He said "I wrote that poem." To which the nurse replied "of course you did, dear."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@WM - Oh my goodness! Poor man! :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

You still hear the music, GG?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@PK - Just about ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

A while ago, I thought "Blimey, the drums are loud on this track!" and then I realised it was the thunder outside. Lol
  3:38pm
WM:

@Paper Kosmonaut: I'll check out Hendrik Marsman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm

This book is a such a perfect description of the 70s :-)
Avatar 3:41pm
Mr Fab:

GG, good thing you're not playing like spooky organ music or sumthin.
  3:41pm
WM:

Not only that, but the nurse and David Gascoyne eventually got married.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Paper Kosmonaut:

Marsman's poem "Flame" is one of my favourites.

Flame

foaming morning
and my fiery laugh
drinks from immense platters
of air and earth
the opal day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - God, imagine if it was October?? I'd be freaking out by now. Lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm

@PK - WOW!! "The opal day". I love that <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
