Observations of Deviance is a vinyl focused, free form program that harkens back to early days of underground FM radio. Your host, David Mittleman, hunts down the most exotic, unusual and off-the-beaten-track music from around the world in a number of genres: Spiritual Jazz, Free Improvisation, Experimental Electronics, Ethnographic Oddities and World-Wide Psychedelic Funk. You are guaranteed to hear sounds you’ve never heard before.

Also, there was a drum feature in the piece. No doubt later someone will inform us that it refers to Miles Davis as an inside joke or something.

	🥁 9:19pm WR: LG, you are correct: "The album included Jimmy’s four-part “Smiling Billy Suite” (dedicated to the drummer Billy Higgins)". That quote is from Jimmy Heath's NYT obituary. On the back cover of the album is a comment that the album title, suggested by their sister Betty, "Marchin' On" was in honor of their parents so I was looking for further family connections. There are, but Smilin' Billy wasn't one of them.

As a drummer, bandleader, composer, producer and DJ he seamlessly weaves the threads that connect experimental Jazz and Hip Hop, while remaining true to his musical mentors, e.g. Geri Allen and Billy Hart. While on tour in Tucson, Arizona, Kassa joined host David Mittleman for an exclusive interview that will highlight a 3-hour exploration of his varied discography.
