Hi Larry, nice ukulele biker pic. I'm going to spend the first hour just listening away from the screens, unless you play something I feel compelled to holler about.

tim abdellah:

Hi Larry and All! Love "Stormy", and could listen to versions of it all day long! (Wondering if you'll play the 70's hit version, which was the first version of the song I remember hearing.)
Avatar 3:19pm
Erica:

Hi Tim. Are you referring to the Santana version of Stormy? That's a good version too.
Avatar 3:22pm
tim abdellah:

Hi Erica - yes, that's the one! I think I bought that 45 when it was new 😊
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm

Hi Tim!

Tim that version is popular with yacht rock fans nowadays.

This is of course a Joni Mitchell song (did I say Dylan?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Funky16Corners:

Hi fred!

Dave M:

What a gorgeous (live) version. I guess this is Judy Dyble but it could almost be Sandy.
Avatar 3:26pm
Erica:

You really are losing your mind aren't you Larry?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
Funky16Corners:

Hi Dave! That was a live on the BBC version. I think that was Sandy Denny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm
Funky16Corners:

@Erica - I didn't sleep well last night. I'm a little punchy today.
  3:28pm
listener James from Westwood:

Monterey Bay for Denver.

It did sound like Sandy, but I kept going back and forth.
Avatar 3:29pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm

@listener James - wha?

@Dave M - I had to check. All Sandy/Iain Matthews on that set

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
Michael 98145:

Hullabaloo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
Franco Twinkie:

Oh yes, Virginia Grahame. Did she have musical guests? It seems like she just sat on the couch looking prim.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm
Funky16Corners:

All I remember is her raspy voice and that crazy mound of cotton candy hair
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Franco Twinkie:

She pre-dated Dawn Davenport for monumental hair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Funky16Corners:

Wasn't the show called Girl Talk?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Franco Twinkie:

I think. She also wore tailored suits with shorty jackets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
Michael 98145:

" Girl Talk (1963–1969) and The Virginia Graham Show (1970–1972)."

somehow i missed all those ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
Funky16Corners:

I just remember my Mom having it on. All I was paying attention to were the game shows and sitcom reruns
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm

Hey Kurt! One of my favorite songs. I'm a big Kurt Weill fan, and the stuff he did for the American stage is particularly interesting

Cotton candy full of sand - sounds like a nightmare to me.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Funky16Corners:

Mmmmmm pizza
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm
Franco Twinkie:

Cheese pizza face down in the sand.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
Michael 98145:

I share your Kurt Weill fandom
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
Funky16Corners:

@Michael - Someday I'm going to get it all together and do a Kurt Weill tribute here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
coelacanth∅:

damn, i had earplugs in to do some sawing and missed september song completely
...i love Jimmy Durante's version.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm
Michael 98145:

KW for the win !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm
Franco Twinkie:

Where you sawing logs? Har har!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm
coelacanth∅:

(i'm happy to've missed Lee Hazelwood's version though!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm
Funky16Corners:

Too bad. It was excellent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm
coelacanth∅:

Franco i wish!
no, inside work. moulding.

well, Larry i'd listen to it. but i've never heard anything by Lee that i liked, except when redeemed by Nancy. but i haven't heard everything
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm
Funky16Corners:

@C - His version is surprisingly conventional. Strings and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
coelacanth∅:

i'll listen to it when i come back to the archive for the other 2. (i would've anyway)
i love that song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm
Franco Twinkie:

TV quiz: Does anyone remember when Hamilton Camp was Andrew the Handyman on He & She? If I remember correctly, he wasn't very handy, he just mooched cigarettes from Paula Prentis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm
Mike Sin:

Hi Larry,
re: mellotrons -- yes, there's that delay from the time hitting the key to the triggering of the tape loop. The loops only hold for seven seconds.
Avatar 4:19pm
Erica:

Mellotrons make me think of prog rock of Strawberry Fields Forever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Mike! Thanks for the clarification! That explains everything I was hearing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Funky16Corners:

@Franco - I've only ever seen clips of He and She. I wish MeTV or someone would rerun it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm
Funky16Corners:

Is this in Goodfellas or Casino?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
Franco Twinkie:

It was great Larry! Our family put aside the squabbling to revel in the quips and low level sexual tension.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm
Funky16Corners:

I love Paula Prentiss. Should have been a bigger star.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm
Funky16Corners:

Page Cavanaugh is another guy I'll do a whole show on sometime
Avatar 4:46pm
Erica:

This is a very jazzy set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
Funky16Corners:

Yes indeed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm
coelacanth∅:

Mike (@417) i thought it was 6 seconds...
but either way, i never understood why they didn't just use tape loops -like miniature 8-track cartridges.
seems like a no-brainer to me!
Avatar 4:48pm
Erica:

Very slow and jazzy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm
Funky16Corners:

@C - Mellotrons were a pretty ambitious piece of machinery for the time, and I've heard they were very temperamental and glitchy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm
coelacanth∅:

< there was one of the 4% of ink spots songs that didn't start with a repeating 4-note ascending guitar riff!
i once made a cassette piece of ink spots intros. i used 2 lps, so about 24 songs. i believe all but 4 or 5 had the same intro!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm
Funky16Corners:

I hear that! I have 5 disc set and it's remarkable how often that motif shows up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm
coelacanth∅:

Larry i've heard that too.
"the mellotron is down today"
...still - i want one!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 4:53pm
