Thank you for this, Heiner & Alfred. I'm not sure which way is up. Greatly enjoying it.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 7:45pm
WR:

Although Harth has worked with many artists I follow I have not previously become aware of him. Definitely not aware of the work with Goebbels. More music. More music. Where will I find the time.

Love Herbie Nichols (Bob Brainen had been playing him weekly on his Saturday show for a while now).

Never enough Herbie.

Back in the day, when I would work in datacenters, until past midnight, I would sing Click Clack while waiting for the subway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
doctorjazz:

This is cool (but it drove my wife out of the room...)
  8:33pm
Listener Gregory:

I thought I had observed some deviance, but then I realized it was only deviation. Does that count?

no judgments made here, whatever works is ok

From the bandcamp link for Sélébéyone
"Throughout the album, the voices of master musicians like Billy Higgins (on “Gagaku”) and Jackie McLean (“Go In”) – both of whom converted to Islam – are heard speaking to the complex relationship between their spiritual and creative practices. "

this track is pretty wild

inner city boundaries- one of my all time favorite songs
  9:10pm
Listener Gregory:

Poor Zorn got lambasted for this by a lot of mainstream jazz critics/fans. Maybe that’s just what he wanted?
  9:14pm
Dean:

"Lambasted": https://www.macfound.org/fellows/class-of-2006/john-zorn
  9:18pm
Listener Gregory:

Ha! Yes, but in 1984, the Monk fans and reviewers did not quite get his rendition using mostly duck calls and skronk guitar. That was the genius of Hal Wilner in choosing that group of artists.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:21pm
WR:

Was reading a review of the Nara recording and found this sentence: "The album Nara is the soundtrack that perfectly stages the divergent ideas that were crossing Brazil while offering a musical vision updated to the latest taste."
www.albumoftheyear.org...
note the term: divergent
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm
doctorjazz:

That Monk tribute album was great!
Avatar 9:23pm
Observations:

divergent - nice note, thanks WR, great concept
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
doctorjazz:

Got to see Glenn Branca way back in the day (around when this came out) at a little NY club called The Mudd Club. I don't think those overtones are captured the same way on record, so much was happening above what the musicians were playing, it was amazing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
zzz:

great cover art on the ascension would be cool to have on LP
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
zzz:

nice @docjazz! i can imagine
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:26pm
WR:

Doc, your pointing out of that album reminds me what a loss the passing of Hal Willner due to covid-19 was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26pm
doctorjazz:

I'm struggling through some required office online training, may have to shoot myself...
  9:26pm
Listener Gregory:

When you think about it, nothing is better for a young avant-garde musician to be accused of disrespect and even trying to destroy jazz/classical/all music (choose one).
@doctorj, word!
  9:26pm
Dean:

You're right, of course, LG, but I think I'm more ruffled by "mainstream jazz" critics and fans.
  9:27pm
Dean:

"Upstart crow!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm
zzz:

that’s right WR. what a loss indeed RIP
  9:28pm
Listener Gregory:

@Dean, I’m ruffled by everyone now. It’s official.
  9:30pm
Dean:

Online training isn't training at all. It's machine-enforced painting-by-numbers. Whenever I "pass" one of these moronic endeavors I print out the "certificate" and hang it outside my office.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm
doctorjazz:

When Branca and his guitar army were playing this stuff, the guitars were hanging, making this unholy noise, while the overtones floated over the room. You can hear it a bit on record, but, man...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm
doctorjazz:

Hey, Dean, Streaming this show through the Technics! (Which is probably going to make it take twice as long to get through this @#&$&#@!! &!?! & Course, but may preserve my sanity).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm
doctorjazz:

*guitars were banging...
  9:36pm
Listener Gregory:

@doctorj, I don’t know what you’re talking about: I’m hearing the Branca piece perfectly through my $4.99 earbuds. I think there’s a guitar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm
doctorjazz:

LG, I'll get you $20 earbuds! (Actually hate earbuds, use either in ear or over ear headphones)
  9:40pm
Dean:

How is the Technics doing, doctorjazz? I gotta say I continue to admire it on a daily basis. Ain't perfect, but it's musical!
  9:41pm
peter:

hi from the Zia breakroom.. this is a cool track!
  9:42pm
Dean:

By the way, a neighbor of mine across the street to whom I've sung the praises of my beloved Linn purchased a used Systemdek with a Linn Basik Plus tonearm. It seems to have issues, so I'm investigating, but I'm so pleased he has ventured into good sound.
  9:43pm
Listener Gregory:

This sounds exactly like me babysitting my nieces when they were young.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm
doctorjazz:

@Dean, getting there with it. The Technics app on my phone worked for a few days, then stopped, but between the buttons on the player and the remote (which was designed by a sadist), I'm able to access most functions. Still haven't figured out connecting an external hard drive. And it sounds very nice (but it's not my Linn...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45pm
doctorjazz:

I remember Systemdek...
Love this Zenon!

I'm done with work too, but honesty haven't been productive for the last couple of hours, have mostly been reading about the music David has been playing.

Thank you David!
