A note about this performance by Hakurotwi Mude...

From the liner notes: "During this recording, the music moved Mude to think deeply about his troubles. As he sang, he stared off into the distance and tears welled up in his eyes. In one line...Mude charges that one of his ancestral spirits is a witch, and he blames the spirit for troubles that have befallen him."

Not to be grim, but when my wife was dying of ALS 12 years ago i wanted to make a mix CD for her. So we went through every CD we had, and she dinged like Hector Salamanca when I hit one of her favorites. After that round we went through those CDs and she dinged when I got to the favorite song on that CD. Ended up with two CDs of tracks (many of which she learned of from Doug's show!). She had quite a sense of humor --last track was "Down in the Ground Where the Dead Men Go" by the Pogues. So I made copies of the mix and gave them to all of our friends.

I like your comment @10:50. In a way, that observation gets to the heart of the phrase "Give the Drummer Some," which James Brown would intone late into a show when everyone but the drummer has had a chance to solo.
