Hello Rich in Washington, WR and ironybread. NIN! What a start to the show. Looking forward to the musical adventure today's show will be!

Hi WR! Hi Mr. Oxford!

And hilarious title for today's show!

Not a joke, when I was a mobile DJ circa 1995 we did a gig for a high school dance in, I think, Parma Idaho, and not one person danced. Afterwards the principal said "That went better than any dance we've had so far, thanks!!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm
ironybread:

Have a swell getaway Rich!
  1:11pm
Mr. Oxford:

Woww, ironybread. This kind of reminds of my high school too. I never went to high school dances at my school since I was supremely shy. But I always heard complaints from teachers that students don't dance at these dances and they just have their backs against the wall (this was 2006-2009, cellphone craze wasn't fully in yet). I remember one complaining "What is the point of even calling this a Dance then?!"
  1:13pm
Mr. Oxford:

I'm guessing in later years, the kids were just on their phones at these dances.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm
Sem:

Hey, iBread and FPB others, greets. Love the Herbie.
Avatar 1:23pm
Mr Fab:

Yes, ironybread- someone remembers MC 900 Ft Jesus! That guy retired way too soon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
ironybread:

Hi Sem! Hi Fab! Yeah, Mark Thomas Griffin just stopped after three MC 900 Ft Jesus albums when he realized he had nothing else to say
  Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
Ben in Fargo:

Good afternoon everyone! I'm loving this Herbie track too.
Avatar 1:26pm
Mr Fab:

Never went to a high school dance, but our talent show New Wave band did get the kids up n dancing. Our cover of Trio’s “Da Da Da” in all it’s Casiophonic glory did the trick. Kids had been sitting on their hands up til then.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm
ironybread:

Hi Ben!
  1:29pm
Mr. Oxford:

This reminds me, I need to listen to more Janet Jackson.

Good on you Mr. Fab for getting the party started at your school's talent show.
Avatar 1:31pm
Mr Fab:

It was practically the only time my friends and I did something popular.
Avatar 1:37pm
Mr Fab:

If I’d known that no one dances at high school dances, I might have gone.
  1:38pm
Mr. Oxford:

I hear you Mr Fab. I became popular momentarily at my school when I played piano and sang a song that I had written at talent show. Looking back, it was an atrocious attempt at combining the styles of Phil Collins and Sting's solo music in the 90s. Nobody at my school had ever written a song so they thought it was cool even though it was a cringey song.

High school was an everyday struggle for people like us, and I guess rare moments like these uplifted us a bit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
WR:

High school was bad, but I knew adulthood was gonna be worse.
  Swag For Life Member 1:42pm
Ben in Fargo:

The way I think of it was, the high school environment was worse than my life situation now, but the state of the world wasn't as bad then.

Must say how I love that at the end of this album's last track "Rock Hard in a Funky Place" everybody basically runs off the end of the runway at the end of the fade-out and Prince laughs & sez "What kinda fuck ending was that"
Avatar 2:00pm
HyperDose:

Can't believe you played that Prince track. Absolute banger.
  2:02pm
Mr. Oxford:

Prince was a funny guy.
  2:12pm
Mr. Oxford:

Quite a bit of Beatles in today's show: the "I'm Only Sleeping" cover, "Taxman" and the "Revolution No.9" sample on Meat Beat Manifesto song.
  2:12pm
Mr. Oxford:

If The Beatles were played at my high school dances, I would have gone 1000%
Avatar 2:13pm
HyperDose:

This show is ridiculous 💜
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm
Rich in Washington:

I was standing in this weird 'not-so-sweetspot' between the living room stereo system and my studio system while folding laundry when Taxman was happening and the delay made it twice as surreal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm

This album desperately needs a sexy vinyl reissue. Think it'll ever happen?

or better yet, a remix/remaster on Bluray. Their videos were every bit as eye-popping as their audio work was mindblowing.

This album might've been the very last thing I bought at my local Tower Records before it liquidated. In fact, it was AT their liquidation sale.

I read once that Gibby was incredibly drunk when he recorded this in one take.

_Ike_:

Of all the songs to get overplayed on MTV (well, on 120 Minutes anyway) in the 90s, “Jesus Built My Hotrod” was one of the best.

L'eau t'rend fada,
Grincheux et pas sympa,
Mais tu radotes
Quand tu pisses dans tes bottes.
Idiot, fou, èpileptique,
Grand-père Magloire
Va se choper des coliques
Si il touche à la badouwa
Le grand-père Magloire a mal au foie
C'est ainsi qu'il déraisonne
Quand grand-père stoppe de cuver
Il ne t'connait plus personne
Et c'est bobonne qu'il bastonne
Non, non grand-père,
Ne t'mets pas en colère
Bois un canon
Dans le fond t'as p'tet raison.
L'eau t'rend fada,
Grincheux et pas sympa,
Mais tu radotes
Quand tu pisses dans tes bottes.
Idiot, fou, èpileptique,
Grand-père Magloire
A un médecin pas catholique
Qui lui ordonne du valium
Grand-père Magloire n'est plus un homme
Mais v'la l'Beaujolpif nouveau
Grand-père craque et boit un verre
On l'fout en maison de repos
Les psychiatres lui font la peau
Non, non grand-père,
Ne t'mets pas en colère
Bois un canon
Dans le fond t'as p'tet raison.
L'eau t'rend fada,
Grincheux et pas sympa,
Mais tu radotes
Quand tu pisses dans tes bottes.
Idiot, fou, èpileptique,
Pov'grand-père,
La loi est meurtrière
J'lève mon canon
A toi et mort aux cons.
Vive la java
Et les blouses blanches basta
Et l'on radote,
En chialant un vieux pote.
Idiot, fou, épileptique.
