	👻 8:10pm Austin Rich: Oh! Perhaps! It wasn't my scene, so I wasn't really following it. But I do recall that pretty quickly, it was everywhere. I guess I should dig into it... I wonder if i know any of the folks invovled?
	8:14pm postconsumer: I'm relatively new to it, but it reminds me how I felt when first hearing mashups... or maybe, just right after I'd been exposed to them. In that, my feeling (so far) is that there's a lot of stuff that's hard to take seriously, but there are quite a few artists doing really amazing things. I've been trying to learn more.

	8:19pm postconsumer: Sometimes I'll review things from the early nineties and think, oh, that's still fairly new, and then I realize, no, that was three decades ago, dude. 😆 I'm doing emoticons today.

	👻 8:22pm Austin Rich: I also realize how young I am, too. I think, "Oh, that was three decades ago..." But really, I'm just starting to get old thoughts, you know?
	👻 8:22pm Mr Fab: Well, the explosion of Hip-hop, electronica, and sampling did seem very modern, if not futuristic. A real break from past traditions. So yeah, i think of the '90s as the modern era, too.
	👻 8:24pm Austin Rich: In a way, the sampling / remixing revolution is still playing out, and is still having an impact, and I think the only comparable revolution since then has been in home recording. But most everything else is just expanding on those same ideas.
	8:27pm postconsumer: I look at my kid and think, he's 11... right now he hears about the 90s, and it's like when I looked back, as an 11-year old kid, on events of the 50s. and yes, a lot of what I hear in modern pop music anyway is using musique concret techniques, in new ways, to create some incredibly listenable music.

	8:33pm Krys O.: It's important to know history. One of the saddest things I hear from young people is "That's before my time." A friend mentioned that one can say the entire scope of human history is 'before your time.'
	👻 8:34pm Austin Rich: I find a lot of culture before my time very compelling. But I wonder if we are exceptions to the rule?
	8:34pm Krys O.: I loved old movies since I was 6 or 7 years old. I could appreciate the music of my parents and my older siblings and so on.
	8:34pm postconsumer: Oh, I'm glad you said something, Scott! I was sitting here really listening closely and LOVING that track (maybe even more than I did when I first played it), and thinking, 'man, I can't be the only one hearing this, am I?"
	8:36pm postconsumer: I certainly grew up watching some older movies, and have made it a point to show my boy early film artists like Buster Keaton and Chaplin. we even watched some W.C. Fields shorts the other day.
	8:37pm Krys O.: Just like in our current times, there are different factions, trends, myriad cultures all around. The same applied to the past. Any decade or whatever measure of time wasn't just one thing.

	👻 8:38pm Austin Rich: I'm sort of sad there aren't old movies I can "flip" past, and then stop to watch. That seems to be one things about loosing analog TV that was a joy: stumbling upon a cool old movie.
	8:40pm Krys O.: Before I went back to cable about ten years ago, I would collect used VHS and DVDs to watch. Also watched the DTV tier using rabbit ear antennae.
