@prof.fuzz: It's like that July-August, if it doesn't rain, it's 98F/37C or more... (The hottest temp I've seen here is 103F/39C, I don't remember the heat index...)

103f isn't hotter than upstate ny sometimes gets
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm
coelacanth∅:

i would've guessed orlando to get hotter than that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm
prof.fuzz:

several years ago, we had 99 days in a row of 100+ temps, only to get an afternoon thunderstorm keep the temps sub-100 on day 100, breaking the streak. then we had a couple more weeks or so of 100+. brutal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm
prof.fuzz:

@NGH: oh, yeah. i remember those afternoon thunderstorms from when we lived in florida when I was a kid. hot day. afternoon downpour. then heated up again until sundown. fun times. i remember the dramatic lightning shows the most. flash boom!
Avatar 9:32pm
northguineahills:

when you have 60% relative humidity, a temp of 103F has a heat index approaching 150F/66C. Usually, when It gets above 100F, the air dries to about 40% relative humidity.

damn, p fuzz. a few years ago up here we had 6 weeks of 95->100ºf . that was extraordinary.
but for the past 3-4 years it's been extraordinarily not summer-like. that past 2 years barely ever breaking 90f, which is bullshit. not even getting a summer, as far as i'm concerned.

ngh i'm getting the feeling you've forgotten the weather of your former residence!
...60% relative humidity would be welcome here, as opposed to the 80 we typically get
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm
prof.fuzz:

that streak was about 10 or 12 years back. then we got a few years with a good amount of rain. now we're a couple of years into hotter than normal weather again. add to that our power grid woes here in howdy arabia, and it's fun times all around.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm
coelacanth∅:

...maybe because orlando has much more wind than here?

This is a hell of a set! I need to dig deeper into The Scientists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm
ultradamno:

Their earliest stuff is downright punk-pop
Avatar 9:46pm
northguineahills:

@coel: when the temperature gets above 100F, more then 60% relative becomes indistinguishable in the heat index, (essentially making such a measurement useless). W/o rain, it's usually 60-80% relative humidity, but w/ temps in the mid 90s. We do get sea breeze effect from both the Gulf and Atlantic... (like the current storm, both ocean breezes our clashing).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm

I just got done watching TV with my wife and I was settling in to listen to the radddio, and I saw that the Dead and Flipper were lighting the comment board on fire, but that only the Dead had been played, which made me scratch me head, so I had to read the whole 2h40m of comments to figure it out.

A Dead off-shoot played at the Greek many years ago. The next morning their bus was in the parking lot at the tennis courts where I work. I had to remind them that there was no smoking.

Flipper?
No one you see is smarter than he

My fave Flipper song (and the first one I heard) was Brainwash. I was listening to WRPI (Troy, NY) one day, and and the DJ played a Fripp or maybe Fripp+Eno record and Brainwash simultaneously, and it was perfect. I already had the Fripp record, so I had to go buy the Sex Bomb 7" immediately.

brainwash was the first flipper i heard as well. on wfmu, early 80s. i recorded it onto cassette then, but didn't find out who it was until 1984, when someone else on wfmu (Paul Cavenaugh) played "ever" and i went and bought all the flipper i could find (which wasn't much)

Any playlist can sequence including G.G.Allin, Echo & the Bunnymen & the Dead - & much more - has to have something considerable going on ! ...Tho when the Dead sang like that it sometimes seems they had no monitors... They sure sound pretty on the 'American Beauty' album. Much as they were supposedly not a Studio band whatsoever.

Wikipedia says that Mick Jones of Foreigner is a current member of 801. That's weird, but it also makes sense, given the early association between King Crimson and Foreigner.
