Welcome aboard! I used to drool all over that book. Two books were the Bibles of my early jazz discovery. That book and Val Wilmer's As Serious as Your Life.

If I remember correctly, that Curtis Counce album cover (with Counce in the astronaut's suit) was also show in the Illustrated Encyclopedia of Jazz.

Yes! It was a fine book. I was young and impressionable when I bought it new. But even then, I could tell that it was thoughtful and well done. You will dig the Wilmer book. She gained unusually intimate access to so many essential musicians of that era. She's a hero of mine.
