Sorry, just caught the last bit of your intro, although, I guess I can go watch the uboob vid, but what is that film about? I have mixed history with asparagus (noting that the pic says "Asparigus").
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13am
Jeff Golick:

Yeah, I wavered on that choice, @RRN63, but figured it does give an idea of the full Asparagus experience.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:13am
DJpeterDE:

Would be a great blog post: experimental music soundtracks for short films.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am
Jeff Golick:

Hey, @WR! It's a 20 minute animated short, with inventive techniques including painted cels, about...uh...a woman who goes out to the theatre and then back home? It's very transporting.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:15am
WR:

DJpeterDE, I think that subject could be a whole blog unto itself.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:18am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...not to disparage the pairing of asparagal defecation depiction & this particular presentation...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am
Jeff Golick:

In the film, the asparagus does a lot of work as a sexual symbol.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:21am
WR:

Curious that the PIC has the what appears to be a typo. All the hits I am seeing has usual asparagus spelling. Several say the film was seen as an opener for Eraserhead but not in the local theatre where I saw eraserhead back in the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am
Jeff Golick:

Yeah, I believe that's a typo ("Asparigus") on the cassette packaging of the only release I'm aware of.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:23am

Can I just say, asparagus pee is amazing. That shit happens in seconds.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 9:25am

Yes, of course, and yes, Doug. Am now wondering about the blog post or scientific paper that must exist about the rate and speed of the asparagus pee phenomena.

Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:26am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Lot to consider re Voice in Jazz.
Yes - as Eno observed - when you have Voice - you have to grapple with the situation with Words. most often...
When listening to a Jazz station - if there's a notable %age of Singing - it's usually Standards or Romantic material...
Otherwise agree with Doug that considering Voice as Instrument has to be so...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 10:27am
chresti:

I can get very particular about voices, I can't tolerate a lot of the hissy nasal voices in pop music, for instance

...but as Subjective as feelings about a Personality or Appearance, say? Voice carries that much information...
The Painting analogy ...Instruments are one kind of Brush or Color or Pen - & the Voice is ...what in that comparison...

...I guess the analogy of Abstract or Landscape compared to Figurative imagery is pretty serviceable ? ...tempted to say it breaks a fourth wall or something - but that's dragging the Composer into it - trying too hard on my part...

Dean:

Jaap Blonk, Phil Minton = voice as instrument
John Coltrane = instrument as voice
Some genres and vocalists (think Joe McGasko's story song sets) = voice as verbal communicator
Other vocalists (Bono, Springsteen) = voice as gruel

Speaking of Odessa, visit the poetry of Ilya Kaminsky: https://www.ilyakaminsky.com/dancing-in-odessa

I met Ilya at OAK waiting to board a Southwest plane. This was around 20 years ago, when the book was published. We were both reading poetry, so we struck up a conversation about Shakespeare, etc. Ilya is deaf, reads lips. Ironically, it was hard for me to hear him over the sounds of the jets when we were in flight, but he understood me.
