For me it's hearing the insights of geniuses at work.
But don't get me started with Ken's obsession with Dylan's demos. Joking Ken. those are great too!

less of mike love's singing; less of Brian Wilson's singing; sometimes no singing at all; less overproduction.
in some cases it's the only version i like.
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...and the idea that he's "genius"?
- what's genius? technically (as a psychology term) it means nothing. and in practical terms, Brian's up there with the top maybe 1000 musical geniuses. possibly.
... there's limitless genius in the musical world, and most of it never gets called genius.

That is - I suspect people just not *liking* TheBeachBoys & where they take them is understandable. Denying BrianWilson is a Genius is willfully petty. & people think they're the same thing.

but this applies to all music from that time; and it's easy to see the brilliance in many musicians.
and easy to hear the sophistication in the harmonies of, for example, the beatles, the zombies, peter paul & mary ... that does not exist in the beach boys.

that leaves quite a lot of music that i do like.

that's along the same lines as those who say musicians should stay out of politics because they're just musicians so they don't know anything.
...and Macca and Martin on no occasion had terrible judgement, after all.
next.

s involvement. went to a signing session with brian wilson back in 2000 and when i got up to him i cried like a baby
G:
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
But I describe that whole period as the BeachBoys doing for several albums what TheBeatles got to only on AbbeyRoad (their last Studio effort).
& nobody cared it seems.
JetBoy of Brooklyn:
coelacanth∅:
in my opinion, not interesting.
...and mike's and Brian's voices making me cringe is subjective. how it affects me and i never said otherwise.
if they had looked to folk songs being sung by people we'll never know the names of in the blue ridge mountain (for example) they'd have found more complex harmonies to incorporate into theirs.
