This doesn't sound so bad to me. I grew-up with a veteran with P.T.S.D., and it reminds me a little of him, though he mostly medicated himself with anger and overwork.

He didn't insist on a chair against the way—it wasn't a guerrilla war—but he wouldn't let us have a whistling tea-kettle, too much like mortar fire.
