	9:12pm Pauly from Clifton: I would have loved to experience shows featuring the likes of Tarantula Girl/Ghoul or Ghoulardi, but as a kid, I just got reruns of the House of Frightenstein and later Elvira. Both are great, but not really homegrown.
	👻 9:13pm Austin Rich: Elvira is pretty rad... and Svengoolie is still doing a pretty faithful old-school horror host thing. And I would say our very own Dr. Sarcofiguy is holding up the torch!

	👻 10:03pm Austin Rich: I tried to locate the studio recording I made of this band when they appeared on the radio in 2007, and I was the engineer. But I couldn't track down the file in time for the show, so I went with the album version. I think it still fits.

So the fact I'm keeping it to one or two songs per show now is pretty impressive! And sometimes I go weeks without playing him! Baby steps, they say...

	10:27pm Mr. X: I think there was an issue of Turok Son of Stone involving a Kong-like giant ape, among the usual assortment of dinosaurs.
	10:27pm Mr Fab: a great ape like Kong might be miffed to be lumped in with lowly simians like monkeys. As orangutans demand equal time!
	👻 10:28pm Austin Rich: I tried to find some orangutans music. Might just have to play the theme song to that Clint Eastwood movie. (Weren't there two of those movies, actually?)

	10:29pm Mr Fab: Otis, er, "Leland" played the Coasters earlier today. Keep the Coasters comin! Didn't Serge Gainsbourg have a song called "Orang-utan"? Don't recall exactly...
	👻 10:30pm Austin Rich: Mr. X: I think all the the "Big Ape and Dinosaurs" together stuff comes from King Kong. (Which, itself, was borrowing from the "Lost World" book by Arthur Conan Doyle.) So Doyle and Kong are most likely the reason people later just put big apes with dinosaurs.

	10:34pm Mr. X: So Lux and Ivy of the Cramps compiled these? They have impeccable taste.
	👻 10:35pm Austin Rich: I remember - in the year 2000 - thinking to myself, "New Devo! And it's good?! We should be so lucky!" Little did I know that they would have another new album several years later... that was also great!

	👻 10:39pm Austin Rich: Those Lux & Ivy comps are compiled by Kogar The Swingin' Ape, who does a lot of uncovering of cool old rock and roll songs. (And, with the "Lux and Ivy" series, it's all songs that they have specifically mentioned in interviews, as being songs they like. Or songs they covered specifically.)

A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.
