Oh, and just wanted to say....GET VAXXED. Even though I got the 'rona, I did NOT run a high fever and was able to self-treat at home with plenty of rest and OTC cough/cold management (with a bit of a cheat of taking a bit of my Precious Bottle of Codeine Cough Syrup for a few nights instead of NyQuil). In other words, even though I am at-risk (lifelong respiratory issues) I didn't require hospitalization. I was ineligible for the antiviral "treatment" due to conflicting meds, which is a shockingly long list. Long story short, if you are over 40 the chances of you being on one of the No No Drugs is pretty high, so don't count on that to save ya. I would have had to quit a vital neurological meds for at least 48 hours before starting antivirals, and then STAY off all through treatment and for 2 weeks afterwards. So, I really had no option but to tough it out or try the monoclonal IV treatment, and I really didn't dig the idea of that also (long story; rate of negative reaction is higher than I was comfortable with "even though they can administer the reaction treatment at time of IV."). Like chemo, if they already have an anti-reactive drug locked and loaded when they start the drip, the odds are sucky.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
Threemoons πŸŒ›πŸŒ•πŸŒœ:

So yeah, unless you absolutely CANNOT get the vax for very well documented reasons, GET THAT SHIT. I am still getting my booster #2/shot #4 as soon as I can. A colleague of mine who had the same vax profile but is close to only half my age (could ALMOST be my kid) -- and 10x healthier as an overall person (lives in SoCal, athletic, etc) was knocked on her ass for almost a month -- as in had to go on short term disability and all of that paperwork HR pain in the ass stuff.

@Tamar thank you and please spread the word! @Philipe glad you all came through it OK. My cousin who WFH has a schoolteacher hubby. Youngest one quarantined after kid behind him tested positive and was sick. Brought home Rona to the whole family; ironically youngest was the ONLY one not sick with it. Older brother got it but not terribly; both parents laid up as sick as dogs. Luckily (??) they live up the road from one of the Grandmas and Uncle is a doctor, so he geared up Grandma with PPO just to make sure that both kids (something like 6 and 7 IIRC) didn't burn the house down/starve to death/live in their own filth/etc.

My covid experience was the worst sore throat I've ever had and just completely miserable fever, worst I've ever felt. Because I did not have trouble breathing, it was still a "minor" case, breathing problems (feeling winded walking to the kitchen or something) advances it to "moderate". But it was the worst minor I could have imagined.

@Hydroplane I kept a hawk's eye on my oxygen levels. The day I tested positive (first day of June, hello Summer) I had it dip down to 75% for about a hot second but I really didn't want to deal with the ER. Did a teledoc; an hour later ox was back at 98% and stayed there. I just get these shitty hacking coughs from ANY respiratory thing that tend to devolve into sinus infections/bronchitis, but I am totes Girl Scout prepared on that front. So, it just became about fluid management and body ache management. I also started out with a VERY sore throat and odd hives in odd places--thought it was strep throat it hurt so bad. However, 12 hours later, that had subsided into full on coughing fits/my body becoming a fountain of various fluids being discharged nonstop out of assorted orifices. Also got dehydrated at some point because my throat was so sore I didn't want to drink water of any temperature. Forced down hydration anyway, still catching up on that front. Oddly enough about halfway through, after not being able to LOOK at food, I had a craving for ramen, and that went right down....

@MarciB: I recall when I first listened to FMU, mid 00s into early 10s, Tamar was on the weekly schedule. Fill-ins only (?) since maybe 2010. Perhaps the way she likes it; show prep is lots of time every week, you have to guess.

@Threemoons we did the NYC show. I loved going to the events Adam hosted, pre-Covid. But I don't do any indoor activities now - hubs ate dinner indoors one night after being so good for 2+ years and got Covid. Of course I got it too - but for me it was super-short and more of a head cold. So until the forever pandemic recedes, no more indoor events or dining. @Threemoons thanks - I hope to avoid future dates with 'Rona but that's probably impossible. The show we did was in 2017 or 2018 - the winner was a young guy - but I forget what his showstopper was! ;(
