Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
Rich in Washington:

I can't help thinking what might've been... Lucas and/or the studio wanted to score the first Star Wars film with electronic music and the idea of having a big, grandiose Wagnerian score came somewhat later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@David in LO - That's me, that is ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Hi flannery! <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06pm

Hello Jan! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm

@Rich - It could have been this! ;-)
Avatar 3:07pm

I would have been much more likely to have paid interest if they had been scored by Wendy Carlos
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Darryl - My goodness YES!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

I once pissed off an entire room of Star Wars fans by calling it "The Wizard of Oz in Space" ;-)
Avatar 3:08pm
worldsworstrecords:

wouldn't that have been something? Or jean-jacques perrey?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
Rich in Washington:

I think that was the general idea. Either Carlos or something like Jean Michel Jarre
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Darryl - Again, fabulous idea!

A Star War.
Wasn't the working title The Star Wars at one point?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
David (in London):

Methinks the Sith Lord doth protest too much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

Think about it .... Han is the Tin Man, Chewie s the Cowardly Lion, C3PO is the Scarecrow, Leia is Dorothy ... and they go to a GREEN city??? It's the same film ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - Thank you, my lovely :-)
Avatar 3:10pm
Mr Fab:

and what's so bad about 'The Wizard of Oz, i ask?!?

it's not science fiction, it's fantasy: "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away" is the giveaway right there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@David in LO - A pox on him!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - There you go!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm
David (in London):

It was, pretty much by Lucas' own admission, Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress with droids.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@David in LO - True :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
Rich in Washington:

I think the first Star Wars film is such a wonderful pastiche of past cinema tropes. Not just Hidden Fortress, but also 7 Samurai, Dam Busters, Sergio Leone films, and yeah, Wizard of Oz and also Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon.
I think the later films forgot about those elements and some of the newer TV series seem to get it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

There really i literally EVERY kind of music in the library vaults :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - The first ones were out and out fun as well. The later ones miss all that, sadly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm

There really is.

Love Buckaroo. So good. Like intentionally made to seem like it's a middle film in a long running series.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Mr Fab - Thank you :-) <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
David (in London):

I was probably one of the few people who wanted the second clutch of SW films to focus less on Jedi and Sith, and more on the Empire economic infrastructure and trade tariffs. But I appreciate that was a minority opinion to be sure...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@Rich - I love the trailer so can't wait to see the actual film :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
DJ GeorgyGirl:

@David in LO - No, I hear you! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm

For me, library music is the musical/thematic equivalent of "there's an app for that" ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
