Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm

Working AND taking it easy? Living that life here, mauri, just like you there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm
Funky16Corners:

@Dreamy - I often tell my sons about the time I spent after lights out listening to all kinds of stuff on the radio, including TV broadcasts at the bottom of the FM dial
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
Funky16Corners:

@C - The level of resentment could only grow, as Whitfield's influence/contributions to their records increased
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Franco Twinkie:

Back in the 1980's before we lived in our house, I would drive over from Pasadena to fix all the stuff that was broken. Often I would pass by Isaac Hayes taking his girlfriend to work at the nail salon up the street. He had a blue Caddy with personal plates that said MR. HAYES. He was an expert at the 'Gangster Lean' - driving scrunched down against the door. I only saw him for a couple of years, then never again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm
Funky16Corners:

That's cool! I remember hearing at one point, Stax/Enterprise bought him a gold plated Caddy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm
coelacanth∅:

it's a shame Larry. so many amazing later cuts, not just vocal tracks but that doesn't detract from the vocals within them.
i guess the group didn't see it that way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
dreamyandseedy:

isn't that car in the Stax museum in Tennessee?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm
Funky16Corners:

Peabo Bryson was in this group when they started. I'm not sure if he appears on this 45
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm
Funky16Corners:

@Dreamy - I think so
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
Little Danny:

wow, this is great - i knew of moses dillard but had no idea he had any 45s on curtom
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
Funky16Corners:

Yeah, this is one of my fave 45s. Sooooooo deep.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm
Funky16Corners:

I think recorded in South Carolina and picked up by Curtom
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm
dreamyandseedy:

there is a song that sampled the beginning of that Moses Dillard one and it's killing me that i can't think of it!
never heard that song before, gorgeous!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Franco Twinkie:

I've stopped working to give this song my full attention.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36pm
Funky16Corners:

@Dreamy - I see a ref that says it was sampled by Roc Marciano on a song called 'Raw Deal"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
Funky16Corners:

@Franco - A great, hidden masterpiece buried deep in Johnny's discography. Written by Thom Bell and Linda Creed, produced by Bell
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm
dreamyandseedy:

i did take a look at whosampled but that's not the one i am trying to remember. thank you though :) it will be fun for me to try and figure this out

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Franco Twinkie:

The orchestration was TV hospital drama mixed with Blaxploitation chase scene.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Funky16Corners:

Bell did something similar for Dionne Warwick with 'Track of the Cat'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Little Danny:

"tv hospital drama" :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
coelacanth∅:

while my computer was fucking up (i didn't even know walk on by was playing)
i thought about that horn part in i think it's the Johnny Mathis song...sounds a lot like that of "born in the ghetto" by hot chocolate.

My girlfriend left for a long overseas journey this morning and the goodbye had to be distanced. She was anxious x 10 about important-personal-stakes journey getting torpedoed by virus developments or direct infection. And, damn, the hoops to jump through for the trip out and back....mama mia.
Thanks, everyone.

The rhythm guitar on this track is hypnotic. Just kind of wandering around in the background
  4:09pm

I feel like these heavily string-orchestrated mini-suites would get channeled in turn by the Philly soul scene (as well as cats like Barry White), eventually evolving into disco’s showpiece arrangements
