WR:

Gary recently twittered about bandcamp new terms of use opening the door to banning "unauthorized" derivative recordings. The "boots" being in the movie but not the soundtrack release was surely due corporate interests not being assuaged to mutual satisfaction.

Avatar 6:19pm
Listener Gregory:

I hear very little Phil Glass here (oops, there's a typical organ line), which perhaps is appropriate given Glass's incorporation of David Bowie's music in his Low Symphonies... namely, you don't hear Bowie at all in it.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:24pm
david w:

Sometimes obscuring the source is part of the game, and sometimes its about holding it high.
Avatar 6:25pm
Listener Gregory:

In the cuts where I'm not familiar with the source music (like The Jazzy B Mix now), I often can't tell it's a mash-up. That's a sign of a good mix!

If nothing else, this episode can point you to some crazy magical things under the surface.
Avatar 6:44pm
Listener Gregory:

I'm not sure if it's consistent with the show's theme, but perhaps relevant in the "classical" domain is the work of Scott Johnson, who manipulated recorded voices to make musical lines and then accompanied them with guitar and other instruments to make a complete composition. I believe it was all done with tape, back in the day: www.discogs.com...
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:47pm

Avatar 6:52pm

What's incredible about the Riley (and also the Johnson I mentioned) is that all this was done with tape looping, cutting, and taping. How many headaches the creators suffered I don't think can be calculated.
