just heard Michael ... he is right .. if ya eat normal meals ..
best to get the Menu at lunch = 2-4pm ..
If going out otherwise .. order a drink and do not ask to see the Carta -
they will bring you free tapas = normally ..
In Barcelona - one place to must eat is at Pinochio = Mercat Boqueria
ask what is on today ... seating is a counter with no system so sort of like a Rugby scrum ... If waiting/standing .. order a Cava for yerselves .. and they'll get ya the next seats ...
https://pinotxobar.com
I also know of a swim spot a wee bit up the coast ... can walk 30 minutes ..
or a bus ..
I live in Madrid when there so I do not eat out . in Madrid ..
I'll write to yer profile and can be more detailed in an email..
REMEMBER: If going out otherwise .. order a drink and do not ask to see the Carta -
they will bring you free tapas = normally ..

Madrid: also check out the Thyssen-Bornemisza (sp?) museum.
San Sebastian/Donostia: go from bar to bar in the old town (Casco Viejo) getting pintxos and drinks, some places are better than others but it's hard to go wrong.
Bilbao: the Guggenheim building is more interesting than the permanent collection there, but they do get in interesting temporary exhibitions. Eat at Porrue (excellent) if you can afford it.
Also in the Basque Country if you have time: Getaria - lovely medieval seaside village

The greatest market in the world, right on the Ramblas. While you're there, eat at Bar Boqueria, in the back ((patatas bravas, arroz con pollo, mejillones and sardinas). Also go to the olive vendor near the fishmongers and bring me back some olives cured in anchovies.

Plan to spend Sunday morning at the plaza in front of Catedral de la Santa Creu i Santa Eulàlia for the saldana dancing. Unique to Catalan culture and the band is great. Then, go to Cuines Santa Caterina in the Mercat Santa Caterina for brunch.
Arc de Triomf Park is a nice place for a stroll, especially on a Sunday (lots of street performers and the like). See if you can get into a game of petanca (local bocci variant).
Unless you’re a huge Miro fan, skip the Miro Museum and go to Park Guell instead (park designed by Gaudi). Much more fun to hang out on the serpentine bench and people-watch.
Make reservations for Sagrada Familia in advance, and plan to spend at least half a day there. As far as I’m concerned it’s the most spectacular building in the world. You can easily spend an hour or two just looking at the nativity façade outside, and another hour or two inside.
Take the tour of the Catalan Music Palace or, even better, go to a concert there.
Barcelona is a great biking city. We rented from the Dutch hippies at BudgetBikes and rode down to the water and along the beach, past the giant fish sculpture by Frank Gehry, to the Parc del Forum (where the Primavera Music Festival happens every year), then back along the Diagonal, with maybe a quick detour to see the old bull ring at Monumental.

If you’re in the neighborhood go to el 4 Gats, where Picasso hung out. Go have a glass of cava there, or at El Xampanyet (have some smoked sardines while you’re there, too).
Take a cooking class. We got a tour of the market, instruction, lots of good wine and a great plate of paella at www.cookandtaste.net
Camp Nou is the biggest football stadium in Europe. Even if FC Barcelona isn’t home when you’re there, you can tour the facility and visit the museum.
Montjuic (Mountain of the Jews): we liked taking the bus to the top and then riding the cable car down to Barceloneta to walk along the beach (and eat at Can Majo).
Also, find out if the castellers are doing anything while you're there. They're the builders of human towers. Kind of amazing to see. www.castellersdebarcelona.cat
Re day trips: nothing that would top what you can already do in the city but if you must, head south to Sitges for the beach, or north to Figueres for the full-on Salvador Dali experience. Maybe a cava-tasting tour if you feel like you must get close to the grape to fully enjoy it. Ramblas.
