Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Should I feel embarrassed at never having heard of this show (Kean)? The title is not that engaging.

Eubie Blake wrote some of the biggest hits of the century and then was forgotten for decades until his "rediscovery." I heard him in concert then (as a college student), and I have never seen a performer more grateful to have an audience. He was ~90 and was tickling the ivories something fierce.
  Swag For Life Member 7:44pm
Tamar:

Cool that you got to see Eubie Blake in his comeback, Gregory.
Avatar 7:45pm

The coolest
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm

Eubie popped up after many years of whitewashed ragtime, thanks to "The Sting", and demonstrated what authentic ragtime sounded like!

Julius La Rosa, who sang in A Broadway Musical is better known as a radio DJ on WNEW in New York, with his show the Make-Believe Ballroom, mostly playing showtunes and pop hits of the 40s and 50s (if my memory is correct). Radio DJ makes good! And performs in a one-night flop!

Calvin Trillin tells how he was offered the job to write weekly poems for The Nation for a fee described by the editor as "in the high two figures." I was going to say that this is the same as our remaining goal, but there's actually even less left to go. It's doable!!
