The sources of that anger are very different but ultimately converged to some degree in the music.

It was biting satire about all the BS going on around them, and all the things slowly happening to them. It was not popular among the sinsiter and calculating state that was salivating behind the curtain, and it would also have displeased Teutonic literary conservatives who would have expressed disgust at Döblin's gutteral street language. (He was a really popular writer in swingin' Berlin already for a long time).
