@Todd yes we can, must be putin trying to fuck with this station

Van Winkle:
Bonjour all...did someone just sing "Memphis"!?! My go-to-pavlovian-get-this-party-started-word...of late. ;-)

Travelin' Band:
That's the greatest rock song of all-time.
2 minutes and 37 seconds of ____s to the wall rock and roll about being in a rock and roll band.
Back home from the Saturday midday Krewe of Iris (female) uptown mardi gras parade. Mary Ellen (my s.o.) used to ride with them in the 90s when she had kids at home, and she knew several people of some of the floats today.
Stream and FM both on leads to some interesting contrasts right now.
Wishing you celebration and joy, Dungaroos K! We're seeing shows Thu. and Fri., so I'm not sure I can make it out yet another night this week -- age is grabbing our ankles!
Yes, suspicion follows Rex like night follows day.
Hey, Mike From BK!
Right, efd? K8 is telling me I'm not allowed to continue the two-source experiment, but I think many FMU DJs would approve!
I *think* 91.1 is one of the emergency back-up modules? It started with "Angst in My Pants." The stream is picking up Todd's convo (hot mic!) and was getting some of his tunes.
yeah, this seems to be a multi-faceted snafu. I'm feeling for Todd right now, there's no worse feeling than being in the middle of something like this.
We brought home a bunch of frozen Miller High Life from a shipping container under the bridge this afternoon. I'm gonna crack one open in your honor, Todd! Glad to be hearing your voice!
@Tony, I always do Jan because I'm usually fed up with all the holiday indulgences. I know a lot of people who choose February because it's the shortest month!
Wow, I thought this was a modern take on this song and I was impressed that someone wanted to nail the production value of the song like this. Then I looked up Iron Virgin and now it makes more sense.
3:51pm
Van Winkle:
Alt Jet...with an interesting accent...pray tell...who were/are they?
@Handy, already on the mend but I don't want to undo what my immune system has done by knocking a few back. Besides, GBV show on Friday so I'll be able to make up for it then!
How many FMU DJs saw Sir Elton at MSG this past week, I wonder? And how many songs did he dedicate to them? (He knows which side his bread is buttered on!)
4:58pm
Van Winkle:
This is the only board I comment on. I had a slip up on ice 4 years ago (to this day) and don't do much tech stuff anymore. However...I can figure this old skool comment board just fine.
;-)
LOVE Amoreena, one of my favorites...opening line gets stuck in my head often.
Just picked up Rock of the Westies last week in Brooklyn....have yet to spin it.
5:03pm
morphe':
Van Winkle - serious query -
would audio interface help?
Always found EltonJohn a completely convincing Singer - for just one thing. Usually great material (tho like many he had a weaker & trendier MTV Period... but he's somehow pretty much exempt from my troubling allergy to Mainstream 70s~80s Hits...)
Conversely (?) - Elton's 'PinballWizard' (& performance in the weirdass Tommy film) are pretty great. Not everyone can take TheWho on that effectively...
5:13pm
Fredericks:
@dday: progressing nicely. Little scarring on chest. Gotta figure out how stay protected from the sun for a year. In Florida, that can be tricky. Currently, listening to Todd and shopping for protective head and face gear. Thanks for checking on me.
5:14pm
Van Winkle:
@ morphe. Actually, turns out the fall was a "red herring" to another related health issue...BUT happy to report hearing remains perfect, vision less-so...so radio and streaming music has happily become my "alt" to t.v./reading. No biggie...I totally front loaded my life...too many shoes to mention.
;-)
@Rev63, most people can't. I think Elton's version of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" is also the only thing worth a damn off the "All This And World War II" soundtrack.
Wow this must be Phantom on a 45. Sounds different than the comp versions
5:18pm
clarke:
perhaps you are thinking of Night Of The Sadist - the original version??
5:18pm
morphe':
Van Winkle - if it was possible to get you = free to you - audio set up to help you interact with FMU and the wider web ... would that be helpful ...
free for you...
@Creature Boy: Many moons ago I came upon a catalog that had copies of "Night Of The Phantom" for $2 a pop...I managed to get a half dozen or so. Wish I still had a few extra!
5:20pm
Dennis Diken:
It was also Jim Backus’ birthday yesterday….I’m just sayin’…
5:22pm
Van Winkle:
@ morphe. It's the "taking in and on" of new processes that is the issue. But I've been creating sone pretty simplified systems) efficiencies of my own. I just like to hear the music...and LOUD!!! Like right now!!!
If Todd keeps this up, I will be having an out of body experience. My too close geographically neighbors are wondering about me: anxious secret glances. Angry Secret Glances seems to be a good name or title, and it is mine.
Damn, missed the Elton conversation while I was closing up at work. Elton was my first arena show, Nassau Coliseum 1972. Joe B. reminded me that it had opened that year. Two things come to mind: 1. Cool. 2. I'm frickin' old.
Frank in my boro: Actually, Frankie Laine, of all people, does a good version of "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" on there too, and Tina Turner (Come Together) & Rod (Get Back, which I think is on a collection of his too) are good, from what I remember (heard the album years ago, never saw the film---which apparently is too embarrassing to even be on VHS or DVD). And Roy Wood & Jeff Lynne are on it too (separately).
Before his final number last night EJ reminisced about his Jersey shows (giving the # of them which I've since forgotten) but specifically referenced early shows in Wildwood and Asbury Park.
John L: I saw Elton the year after at the same place, one of my first big--arena-rockshows, & he did a bunch of stuff from "Yellow Brick Road" (inc. Funeral/Love Lies Bleeding) which wasn't even out yet (we only knew "...Saturday Night," since it was a single then). And for the encore, "Honky Tonk Women" he brought out Bernie & Loudon Wainwright, I think....I have some of it on a cassette somewhere.
DG: Nice. When I saw him Legs "Larry" Smith came out and did a tune with him. Family opened, but I had no idea who they were then; for some reason I was familiar with the Bonzo Dog Band.
How on top and how heavy the drum was on Psychotic Reaction before.
5:31pm
BenZ WPB:
I remember seeing Elton John at MSG around 1978 or 1979. All I remember is him kicking over the piano stool at one pojnt. QuarterFlash opened. Don’t remember anything of their set either.
Saw Elton again for his "last tour" pre-C19. He's apparently...coming back to our town again soon. ;-)
Enjoyed greatly in the nosebleeds. I recall sewing a quilted faux denim with star "bolero" number to wear to a mid 70s show... combined with a several blocks long ticket purchase lineup from 7am on a Sunday snaking to reach the one dept store outlet selling physical tickets...true story.
Nerd trivia: Amoreena was the song playing at the start of "Dog Day Afternoon". Other than that there was no other music in the film.
5:35pm
Mr C:
Todd,
Ask George Clinton about his connection to Producer Jimmy Miller, who produced the first Parliaments single Lonely Island
Jimmy was from Brooklyn but his father owned olubs in North Jersey.
Wilbert Harrison's Let's Get Together LP is like candy. Damn it I just passed on a Downliners EP at Amoeba Hollywood although I'll bet it's still there & I planned on backtracking & grabbing a non skipping Angry Young Them, today . I really like Bad Storm Coming by the Sect
John L: Yes, Legs Larry is the tap-dancer on "I Think I'm Gonna Kill Myself" on Honky Chateau, maybe it was that song? First time I saw him, the Sutherland Bros. & Quiver opened (w/a future Attraction on bass) & next time, in '76 at MSG, Billy Connolly opened (I don't think the audience knew who he was....this was before he was on sitcoms & American TV).
I never knew about the Reed/Cale Downliners Sect song. I have the compilation that came out in the nineties, "The Definitive Downliners Sect Singles A's & B's", which one listened to over and over.
The track I mentioned "Bad Storm Coming" is off an LP of country songs by Downliners Sect which has Bakersfield songs long before that music was fetishized by the rock world. Hey here's the Reed thingie!
Took longer than expected, clarke, but we moved 'em around!
Todd, thanks for the show and for braving the difficulties! Remember: strength through failure. And this crowd is the strongest! Much appreciated. Iiiiiiiiiiiiit's BOSS!
I had to step away, but saw all these Elton memories...mine..1980..got to Central Park 10 minutes after he started, excused our way to about 20 feet from the stage. Great show. Left there, went to MSG & saw Bob Seger. A pretty good day & night.
