Favoriting February 23, 2022: Bappi Lahiri (1952-2022)
Crowned Bollywood’s “Disco King” in the 1980s, Bappi Lahiri was the only child of Bengali musical artists Aparesh and Bansuri Lahiri and the nephew of playback singer Kishore Kumar. Though best known for his upbeat hits written for Disco Dancer and Dance Dance, Lahiri’s oeuvre was as varied as anyone’s in the business, including romantic soundtracks for evergreen classics like Chalte Chalte. Lahiri passed away last Wednesday, and this three-hour tribute will honor the full spectrum of his output.

I miscalculated on a dinner recipe (Khoresh-e Fesenjoon (Persian Chicken Stew With Pomegranate and Walnuts), NY Times...missed the part when they say simmer the sauce for 2 hours, then add the chicken and simmer another 45 minutes. It should be ready between 10 and 11 PM (called for a pizza delivery, will be dinner tomorrow and Friday, IF it comes out OK). Oh well...

It was pretty quick and pretty all-consuming. A few Bangladeshi places stayed open on 73rd for a while, and I think there was one place on 74th that sold Bollywood and Tollywood and Punjabi stuff that stuck it out for a while, but

The greatest Indian Cinema store I ever went to was in Edison, NJ -- I think it was called Raaga. Holy Crap it was amazing. There was a branch on 74th too, much smaller, and which was the first place to go on that street.
