Closest I ever got to a whale (an Orca) was outside it's re-hab tank at Mote Marine Research Center in Marathon FL. Got lucky enough that day to assist in vet checkups on two bottlenose dolphins that were part of a mass stranding on the Gulf side of FL. Incredible day.

The vet was actually the French guy that you may have seen on the PBS show about dolphins that had Robin Williams. A late 90's episode.

@Dutch, no worries! I grew up with the wolvelike theory of whale evolution too. It's almost jarring to think that carnivorous whales evolved from herbivorous hoofed mammals.

i was watching gunsmoke on pluto and festus asked a guy with a guitar if he knew 'don't go kickin' my dog down the road' i googled it knowing he was originally a singer and 'stop kickin' my dog around' was a real folk song (which you probably knew amanda).

My view on poetry vs. lyrics (I've written tons of lyrics but in no way am I a poet) is it seems poetry has more "rules" than lyrics meant for songs. Just my way of looking at it. I enjoy both.
