He expressed his message clearly and zealously to all people interested in living a morally awake life. I LOVE BETTY DAVIS
	10:00pm PaulRobeson1920: While many readers have turned to Eastern sources for nonsectarian spiritual guidance, the West has had a vital, if overlooked, classic treasury of such helpful action-wisdom all along. One of the wittiest teachers who ever lived, Epictetus’s teachings rank with those contained in the greatest wisdom literature of human civilization. The Discourses could be thought of as the West’s answer to Buddhism’s Dhammapada or Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching. Those who fault Western philosophy with being overly cerebral and inadequately addressing the nonrational dimensions of life may be surprised to learn that The Art of Living is actually a philosophy of inner freedom and tranquility, a way of life whose purpose is to lighten our hearts. An unexpectedly East-West flavor enlivens The Art of Living. On the one hand, its style is irrefutably Western: It exalts reason and is full of stern, no-nonsense moral directives. On the other hand, a soft Easterly wind seems to blow when Epictetus discusses the nature of the universe. 	👻 10:13pm Austin Rich: When my show was still called "Blasphuphmus Radio," I helped fund one of the Olympia Experimental Fests, and got some Giant Worm stuff (a CD and a poster) for helping fund it, which was my first taste of The Giant Worm. (This was in the early 2010's, I think?) Not long after, we were negotiating how to get them live on What's This Called? (The show I was an engineer for for many years while I lived in Portland.) And then, finally: their appearances on my show. I'll have to find a link to that photo later, and put it in the podcast show notes.

	10:17pm Mr. X: The Jell-o Show was an annual event in Eugene sponsored by the Radar Angels. Might still be going on, for all I know.

	👻 10:19pm Austin Rich: The Long Division Trio came to Salem to play once, for a show I put on. It was one of the tightest performances I've ever seen, and the staff at The Space all pulled me aside to ask, "Where did you find this band?"

So when I started work on making a digital archive of the old tapes, I needed a label. So I came up with the term "protoWorm" to cover everything the band did before it settled on the name The Giant Worm.

So I was asked to take recordings of Pete's voice, and play them along with a live performance of The Worm, at the show. It worked, and these are recordings from that show. I had a lot of fun at that show, and always wanted to do it again. That was the time I was talking about, where I would look over, and Gary would be looking at me, every time. I suspect everyone who plays with him says that. "It was me! He was looking at me!"

I think some fun person on the internet cooked up this "longer" version for fun, and it sounds pretty good to me, so I've decided to run with it. But Certainly, Eno's original version is a little shorter. Rumor has it that Eno composed more Dune music when the project was going to be with the previous director, Jodorowsky. However, only this piece has surfaced, so I think it's safe to say that this is probably as far as Eno ever got.

A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

He expressed his message clearly and zealously to all people interested in living a morally awake life. I LOVE BETTY DAVIS
	10:00pm PaulRobeson1920: While many readers have turned to Eastern sources for nonsectarian spiritual guidance, the West has had a vital, if overlooked, classic treasury of such helpful action-wisdom all along. One of the wittiest teachers who ever lived, Epictetus’s teachings rank with those contained in the greatest wisdom literature of human civilization. The Discourses could be thought of as the West’s answer to Buddhism’s Dhammapada or Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching. Those who fault Western philosophy with being overly cerebral and inadequately addressing the nonrational dimensions of life may be surprised to learn that The Art of Living is actually a philosophy of inner freedom and tranquility, a way of life whose purpose is to lighten our hearts. An unexpectedly East-West flavor enlivens The Art of Living. On the one hand, its style is irrefutably Western: It exalts reason and is full of stern, no-nonsense moral directives. On the other hand, a soft Easterly wind seems to blow when Epictetus discusses the nature of the universe. His depiction of Ultimate Reality, for instance, which he equates with Nature itself, is remarkably fluid and elusive: startlingly reminiscent of the Tao. For Epictetus, a happy life and a virtuous life are synonymous. Happiness and personal fulfillment are the natural consequences of doing the right thing.

	👻 10:13pm Austin Rich: When my show was still called "Blasphuphmus Radio," I helped fund one of the Olympia Experimental Fests, and got some Giant Worm stuff (a CD and a poster) for helping fund it, which was my first taste of The Giant Worm. (This was in the early 2010's, I think?) Not long after, we were negotiating how to get them live on What's This Called? (The show I was an engineer for for many years while I lived in Portland.) And then, finally: their appearances on my show. I'll have to find a link to that photo later, and put it in the podcast show notes.

	10:17pm Mr. X: The Jell-o Show was an annual event in Eugene sponsored by the Radar Angels. Might still be going on, for all I know.

	👻 10:19pm Austin Rich: The Long Division Trio came to Salem to play once, for a show I put on. It was one of the tightest performances I've ever seen, and the staff at The Space all pulled me aside to ask, "Where did you find this band?"

So when I started work on making a digital archive of the old tapes, I needed a label. So I came up with the term "protoWorm" to cover everything the band did before it settled on the name The Giant Worm.

	👻 10:44pm austinrich: I had been trying to wrangle the Giant Worm to play Salem, and we finally made it work... except Pete couldn't make it. So I was asked to take recordings of Pete's voice, and play them along with a live performance of The Worm, at the show. It worked, and these are recordings from that show. I had a lot of fun at that show, and always wanted to do it again. That was the time I was talking about, where I would look over, and Gary would be looking at me, every time. I suspect everyone who plays with him says that. "It was me! He was looking at me!"

I think some fun person on the internet cooked up this "longer" version for fun, and it sounds pretty good to me, so I've decided to run with it. But Certainly, Eno's original version is a little shorter. Rumor has it that Eno composed more Dune music when the project was going to be with the previous director, Jodorowsky. However, only this piece has surfaced, so I think it's safe to say that this is probably as far as Eno ever got.
