Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from January 28, 2022 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

@SOP...An inspiration for this song was the unpretentious verse of the '60s Liverpool poets. Weller told Mojo: "A fan had turned me on to Adrian Henri, and I leaned through these poets that you could be open about your thoughts and feelings and you could juxtapose a grand, classical image with a street one."

@LOT, 2:30, I think Satanic Majesties Request is fun, some of it went too far into psychedelia for its own good, but much of it is great music (Molly Tuttle did a great cover of "She's a Rainbow"; the Stones' is also fabulous).

@doctorjazz..So when Richards says Sgt. Pepper’s was “a mishmash of rubbish” and Satanic Majesties was “a load of shit,” that both albums had come unmoored from the “roots,” one has to keep in mind that he has a rare perspective as a guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter for one of the greatest rock bands in the history of the genre.

Alvy@2:52-I assume that's Keith Richards you're quoting. I never read that interview, but, as much as he's a guitar "god", artists are often not the best judges of their own work, they often hear things in it that they wish they did differently, dismiss things that us mere mortals love. I don't think every move on both those albums was completely on point, but they both have music I love.
