Partner and I had recent conversations about the nasal Kristen Chenowith-y sound of many stage musiclal singers now. It's odd and unsatisfying, even unpleasant, but ears of audiences and entertainment producers obviously change as trends evolve. My outlook's not an "only past = good," confinement, but damn glad so many FMU DJs give us such a range of earlier talent and pleasures in so many categories.

I suppose I could read some in-the-studio accounts somewhere, but I wonder if some of the best soul singers had producers pushing, prodding, exhorting, encouraging, feeding to get such performances or if it was mostly all performer independent intention and feel. Some of both, I suppose.
