Surprisingly more mom who is a baby boomer isn't familiar with the Ronettes despite being a kid when they first came out. Yet people younger than her know of Ronnie Spector (especially from Eddie Money's Take Me Home Tonight and Dirty Dancing.)

Mike Sin:

Hey folks!
Side comment -- here's something that's changed in 50 years-- In 1966, Lennon gets called out for his comments on Christianity in an issue on Datebook. Did you ever see the McCartney pull quote that appeared on the cover of the same issue of the mag? Didn't even raise an eyebrow....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
Funky16Corners:

Hey Mike! I never saw the Paul quote. What was it?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm
Mike Sin:

@Funky16Corners -- i0.wp.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
Funky16Corners:

Oh wow, though I assume he was being critical of the US.
Avatar 4:39pm
Vincent The Soul Chef:

Is there even a shred of context there... I honestly read that quote as meaning he was angry at people who perceived Black people to be (expletive). Paul *can't* be that crazy... I dunno'... wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm
Funky16Corners:

That was my read as well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm
Mike Sin:

@Funky -- That whole issue quotes previous interviews out of context, but yes, that was McCartney's complaint. It's just easy to forget how easy the word was thrown around whether it was being used in a derogatory manner or not. That fact that it appeared in pull quotes of a teen mag is pretty astonishing 50 years later.

Today probably won't look too rosy in retrospect either. Mind you, the diabolical irresponsible new ways that language is being used to frame everything makes me wonder if we'll be here at all sometimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44pm
Funky16Corners:

Yeah, we're living in the Golden Age of bullshit. So much pumped into our ears via TV, cable is agenda-driven half/non truth, and a lot of folks are not equipped to sort it all out
Avatar 4:44pm
Vincent The Soul Chef:

Exactly that...
Avatar 4:44pm
Vincent The Soul Chef:

Damn shame too...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm
Mike Sin:

@Funky -- That mag was publsihed somewhere in the US. Don't know for sure -- But, Danny Fields (yes, that Danny Fields) was the managing editor and pulled the quotes and Art Unger put them on the cover.
