Music on the train is sacred. I moved to NYC over 20 years ago, and I've always had lots of jobs, and they take me all over the city (and to Jersey), and there is something so beautiful about moving through the city where you live, seeing its people, listening to your own soundtrack. Or the moments you have to pause your music to hear what's happening in the car...I didn't understand how much I loved the train time until the pandemic. I don't take it for granted anymore...the music, the movement, the energy of the city where I live. All of that is pretty beautiful. Thanks for reminder, Miia, I'm with you...

subway actually such a big part of so many people's lives!
so many "illegal" performers in nyc stations, many were great.

"A love letter radio show to the subways of the world"

puppyfarts:

ah love that!! makes me immediately think of subways by the avalanches, such a vibe of getting home on the train late at night. last night i had my own subway adventure coming back from manhattan to teaneck new jersey where my parents live. true jersey suburb kid struggle of manifesting getting that last bus home at 2am or whatever.

At family gatherings or parties, I'd often be in charge of entertaining kids. I'd line up a bunch of chairs and we'd play "school bus." If I had grown up in a city, maybe I'd have them play "subway" instead.

This is great! I grew up in NYC and learned the the NYC subway system from my parents when I was a kid. My friends and I had some of the most unforgettable experiences riding the Iron Horse. LOL

I have driven to work most of my life, but new job in 2019 meant train into philly. Read a lot of books on the train. At times would pop the buds in and listen to music. There is one that sticks out - Labi Siffre ‘Remember my Song’ which when I first heard it was like hi slim shady.

Morgan:

i love seeing strangers on the train blissing out to their own headsets too, it cheers me up every time

Yeah, there's something electric when you are in your own intense music space and you glance up and meet eyes with someone grooving out to something totally different, and you don't even know what it is...

Dear Miia, thank you for bringing it! Can't wait till your set hits the archives so I can replay later - that good!

Thanks for reminding us of how music is magic during transit, Miia...I've been avoiding subways during the surge here in NYC, but know I'm probably getting back on trains this week. And music always brings out the beauty in the mundane. The commute doesn't have to be so bad...THANKS FOR THIS SHOW!
