I hitched from CA to Austin Texas once, cannot remember if I went through Barstow or just saw the name on a highway sign in passing. Quite a trip with several mini adventures but didn't see any graffiti like these messages.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm
Webhamster Henry:

WHY IN HELL DID YOU COME, ANYWAY?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:24pm
WR:

A year or so later when I first heard Partch's Barstow, it resonated strongly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm
Webhamster Henry:

Barstow is one of Partch's more crowd pleasing tunes.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:29pm
david w:

It's charming, but Petaluma is pretty delicious (in spite of the weird edits that he and probably Danlee Mitchell used to cobble all these takes together).
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:29pm
WR:

I didn't know until a few years ago that he had worked on a few different compositions that are theatrical in nature.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:31pm

Theater was integral to his work.

Haven't heard this in a while and its great to hear it now !

I hitched cross country and several interstate jaunts like Buffalo to Madison and always have an affection for these stories/comments.

You know the American Festival of Microtonal Music's Chromelodeon for their Partch pieces was a DX7 or Emu Proteus that I tuned. The DX is abut 10 feet from here.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:39pm
david w:

I lust for that Chromelodeon sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm
Webhamster Henry:

Those implementations weren't super precise, in terms of timbre. I also have leave to make the Chromelodeon app from the Partch Estate. That would be able to do all three sets of reeds and other stuff you can't do with just a tuning table. And it would sound a lot more like a Chromelodeon.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:48pm
WR:

You mentioned about edits. Seems they were done with splicing tape, not studio mixing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm
