Folklorist Derek Piotr brings you the finest hidden gems of old-time, country, Americana, bluegrass and beyond. Dust on the Decks features recordings spanning a century; murder ballads, local nonsense, cowboy tales, banjo lessons, ancient Scottish song, and some of his own fieldwork, with heavy emphasis on Western North Carolina. Blood on the Tracks? Dust-to-Digital? Dust on the Decks. The old made new again? Perhaps!

I was an avid Foxfire reader in my 7th grade, made soap in the back yard and dressed a rooster according to instructions.

I had a shortwave radio when I was a teenager in the seventies. It's part of what inspired me to study Russian. Does shortwave radio still exist? Barely, i suppose.

@McGroovey They do! A bunch are supposedly just old and infinitely broadcasting the same looped signals, perhaps a few are still used for spy communications?
