I guess I don't use them, dreamyandseedy. The only one I can think of where it's come up is Paypal, which can call the landline, so I can use it only from home. And then the HR dept. at my job (a university) also insists on two-factor authentication but can also call the landline.

Though I'll note that the Amyl and the Sniffers show got COVID canceled yesterday, and the only ticket-delivery method for their May show is through an app, so I guess I won't be seeing Amyl.

Totally off topic here, but in my search to find a yard leaf mulcher (we had 105 bags of leaves last year), I discovered that there is a Martha Stewart-branded yard leaf mulcher. I thought you all should know.

Julie:

this year I paid a bloody fortune for a "fall cleanup and mow" for the house but I need to learn what I really NEED to do and what can wait.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:55pm
Phillippe:

I tried to keep up with the leaves last year and drove myself and the rest of the household crazy. 3-4 hours every weekend, for like 8-10 weeks in a row. This year I am doing it twice -- Once this weekend, once in Feb. Screw the HOA. It's the damn unused community park next to us that is depositing half the leaves in my yard anyway.
  4:56pm
Garfield:

Hi, Julie! Chiming in for Ride! If my Ride CD’s were cassettes then I’d have worn them out. I hope they don’t have disc rot 😬
Avatar 🦇 4:58pm
Julie:

I don't even seem to have an HOA but the neighbors complain to the town when grass is too high so I'm scared now
Avatar 🦇 4:58pm
Julie:

@garfield I didn't get much into them probably because I like female vocals with my gaze, but I'm checking them out more now.
Avatar 🦇 4:59pm
Julie:

disc rot is real. RIP everything for backup.
Avatar 🦇 5:01pm
Julie:

it's getting harder though, I don't even have built in disk players in my laptops anymore. I had to buy an external one. So my new CDs kinda pile up till I want to sit and deal with them.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:03pm
Phillippe:

My neighbors are pretty cool. The guy on one side is retired, so he's out in his yard mowing over the leaves twice a week, the guy on the other side saw me out raking last year and (paraphrasing) said "What are you doing that for? They'll all be down before spring and they aren't going anywhere in the meantime. That's when I'm picking mine up"
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:06pm

Handy Haversack:

Cat food secured and in vast quantities. Some special feeding mats to try to slow them down in the eating. More Turboacratcher inserts. A jar of catnip. Oh, and dog food because I like carrying things.

They are totally insane. They make beelines for the most kitten-dangerous places. Somehow they found K8's sequined drug purse? Jesus fucking wept.

I just hit that same wall with a show, Cha Cha. Guess I won't be seeing Amyl and the Sniffers.

Wotcha, David. Groovy ... maybe after this and just a few more drinks.

i would like a sequined drug purse!

@5:35 Julie: No, i can't really go to the website, hence no chat etc. when I listen on the go, I simply load the playlist file with a media player, like S60 Internet Radio with my Nokia phones or VLC with my so-called Smartphone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm
Michael 98145:

@PCC2000, even worse are events that expect you to have a Facebook Acct.
Avatar 🦇 5:41pm
Julie:

wow Cha Cha that is so smart. I'm glad you can do that!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:41pm
Handy Haversack:

You can have K8's! I'm done with the thing!
Avatar 🦇 5:44pm
Julie:

what goes IN the drug purse anyhow?
Avatar 5:45pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Michael 98145 - what, you need facebook to attend events? God help me, my need for anger management increased 1000000%
Handy, sorry for missing your Amyl & the sniffers gig, to force people to use smartphones is just [insert an adjective describing everyday fascism here]

David (in London):

Surmontil-50s, Julie. Handy will have some....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm
dreamyandseedy:

i also want a sequined drug purse (pre-filled please)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm
dreamyandseedy:

sequined drug purse would be a great band name
Avatar 🦇 5:47pm
Julie:

I looked up that drug it sounds lame
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:48pm
Handy Haversack:

"Capitalistic," Cha Cha?

David, it means we'll miss out on Monday and come up smiling Tuesday morning. But that's OK.

dreamyandseedy, Julie, K8 is offering prefilled sequined drug purses as long as I spare hers.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:49pm
Handy Haversack:

Possibly some of the 45s that you can get here might even come with a certificate for one ... leestavall.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
David (in London):

Julie. never had it myself, but it's a Withnail and I reference, and thus sacred...

These days I think my sequined drug purse would probably just have Fisherman's Friend throat lozenges in it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm
dreamyandseedy:

i kind of love that Rebel album cover
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:51pm
Handy Haversack:

Mine is filled with whisky and rage-a-hol, David. I'm a rage-a-holic! I'm addicted to rage-a-hol!
Avatar 🦇 5:51pm
Julie:

it's great, isn't it? He just passed away this week.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:53pm
Handy Haversack:

I was dealing with major kitten misbehavior. What's Our Hour Four going to be?
Avatar 🦇 5:53pm
Julie:

songs from live guests!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm
David (in London):

That Lisa Lee album cover could not be more 80s if it was wearing shoulder pads.

Nice track, too.
Avatar 🦇 5:53pm
Julie:

from the before times! the way before times!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:54pm
Handy Haversack:

You know there wasn't a sock on the set, David.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm
Michael 98145:

80s beat - handclaps
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:00pm
Handy Haversack:

I know a band who'd love to go on live with you, Julie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:01pm
Will the Sound Guy:

Hi, Julie and all!!!!
Avatar 🦇 6:02pm
Julie:

Hiya Will! When/IF we're allowed guests again
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:02pm
Michael 98145:

"dedicated" to who ...?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:03pm
Handy Haversack:

Now I'm hearing David say how he's just going to pop down to the Purple Turtle for a pint and an inkubus.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:03pm
listener james from westwood:

Ohhh, this hour's gon' be good.
Avatar 🦇 6:04pm
Julie:

that day in London at the purple turtle was ridiculously hot. We were stuck outside before they opened it was like in the 80s. I got sunburnt. And then a basement full of goths in black on the hottest damn day in London..man what a crazy night
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm
David (in London):

Handy, I'm just popping down the Turtle for a pink and an inkubus.
Avatar 🦇 6:06pm
Julie:

"where were you, Julie you got a nice tan!"
"london. I was in london."
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:06pm
Will the Sound Guy:

that's pretty funny
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:07pm
Handy Haversack:

That thick in London accent!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm
David (in London):

A pink is London slang for 'Julie with sunburn outside a gig'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm
Michael 98145:

not rhyming slang for wink?
Avatar 🦇 6:08pm
Julie:

I mean I never get color, I avoid sun like the plague. I go to a place that's known for rain and fog and come back with "color"
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
Handy Haversack:

Michael, it's because "Julie with sunburn outside a gig" gets a wink, which rhymes with pink. QED.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm
David (in London):

London is actually a sun-drenched tropical place. We just talk about rain and fog and all that guff to keep the tourists away.
Avatar 🦇 6:12pm
Julie:

Honestly every time I've gone it's been bright and sunny. I do remember one trip I had one day I stayed inside because it did rain nonstop. but that was a rarity.
Avatar 🦇 6:13pm
Julie:

tell you were I've been that was dark dreary and rainy it was fucking kauai. I was miserable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm
dreamyandseedy:

i've been digging into the Duane train archives and I heard him play Tamaryn! Your overlap w/Duane so far extends to Pooka and Tamaryn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:15pm
Michael 98145:

True that. Kauai can be miserable. Seems like everytime we've gone a disaster hits the island soon after.
Avatar 🦇 6:15pm
Julie:

I remember when I heard Duane was having her on live, I was surprised. But then I don't really listen to him much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm
David (in London):

Hawaii a dark, rainy place, London a tropical paradise.
You heard it here first folks.
See me after the show for further details.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm
dreamyandseedy:

i will report back with further overlaps :) it totally excites me to see where dj's tastes merge
Avatar 🦇 6:16pm
Julie:

my lifelong friend lives there. she has chronic pain and I beg her to get away from that humidity but she'd rather be there and in pain than out of pain on the mainland (shrug)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:18pm
Michael 98145:

It's a warm pain.
Actually, the islands are experiencing some nasty weather this week.
Avatar 🦇 6:18pm
Julie:

Yes I saw she's kinda hunkered down
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:19pm
Handy Haversack:

David, I hear that exciting opportunities await me in the off-world colonies! Can you confirm or disconfirm?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:22pm
David (in London):

Handy, there's an asteroid mine near the Tannhäuser Gate which could use a man like you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm
Michael 98145:

Avatar 🦇 6:40pm

live sets were a TON of work. and they really had to only be guests I absolutely loved because I'd have to hear them over and over again recording, editing, playing back again...

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:44pm

Sounding great.
Avatar 6:45pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Hard work for sure, but should there be Julie Sessions I'll tune in. Then again, there's years and years worth of DNotS shows I have not listened to yet in the archives, plenty of stuff exclusive to this show there already
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:46pm
Will the Sound Guy:

I agree with Julie, nothing worse than having to work on a mediocre live set
Avatar 🦇 6:47pm
Julie:

I had one band on they were great but they had a zillion restarts and mistakes. It was an editing nightmare. Luckily they were fantastic and I never got tired of hearing them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:47pm
dreamyandseedy:

whoa, i had no idea you had marissa nadler on! beautiful
Avatar 🦇 6:48pm

Was it Pink Floyd, Julie? You can tell us.
Avatar 🦇 6:49pm
Julie:

yes.. that damn gilmour is a primadonna
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:50pm
Will the Sound Guy:

I don't edit much. I record the live sets for shows that I do the sound for. I end up mixing live, and mixing the multi-track recordings in post. ... a lot of work for sure
  6:50pm
Andres:

That Marissa Nadler was beautiful! So much great live material. Great show, Julie! Thanks!
Avatar 🦇 6:51pm
Julie:

thanks Andres! I try not to edit too much but sometimes there's a really big gap or whatever. And occasionally I'll tighten up spaces between songs if it was a particularly long set overall
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 6:55pm
Handy Haversack:

Crap damn it! It's almost over!

Great set, Julie. Really does sound fantastic. Thanks so much -- hope to see you Saturday night! Sequined drug purses for everyone!

Later on, O Dark Ones.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm

“Zohra Atash, the thrilling vocalist of the duo Azar Swan, is the child of displaced Afghani intellectuals who settled in the suburbs of Washington D.C. Her musical diet of goth/industrial soundscapes, gauzy dark shoegaze and Middle Eastern melodies – along with heavy reflection on the political, the personal and the ethereal – creeps into the thick layers of Azar Swan’s midnight post-pop ..."
