(Murakami Whywolf))):

I wouldn't be so keen on believing firmly that Betty Boop were Jewish and had a Polish-sounding surname.

I will note that at the beginning of the Betty Boop cartoon "Minnie the Moocher", her parents are depicted as stereotypical (Gentile) Germans pressing Hasenpfeffer on her. True, many German Jews were quite assimilated, but given the cartoons of the time, if her parents were Jewish they surely would have been stereotyped that way, and definitely would not be insisting that she eat non-kosher stewed rabbit….

—and surely the Codger could not be suggesting to us that an animated cartoon might _lie_ to us!

Which one was that? The 'Pluto' stream aggregator ('The streaming aggregator that drags _you_ to Hell!') plays a lot of Betty Boop cartoons, but mostly post-Code, and I think almost all or all of them from the television repackaging, which might not have that one at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm

And mostly public domain too, probably.

Because of a bad early education, I first heard something like "The Varsity Drag" when Elliott Gould hosted "NBC's Saturday Night" (not yet rechristened "Saturday Night Live", that was still preëmpted by Howard Cosell's competitor on ABC) and sang "The Castration Walk".

I beg to differ: I just saw it, and they 0.) had exaggerated German, not Yiddish, accents, adn 1.) insisted that she eat Hasenpfeffer, a rabbit dish religious Jewish parents would not have in their homes.
