my big memory of Expo '67 was hanging out in the Youth Pavilion..I think it was called that, and hearing Baby You're A Rich Man. My sister went to see Leonard Cohen in a club that night. I couldn't go 'cause I was a kid. Couldn't get in.

Montreal was the first place (and maybe only place) where someone spoke to me in French. I mailed postcards to friends. A woman was coming up behind me so I held the box cover open for her and she said "Merci". It was pretty cool. I felt international!

I went to Windsor, Canada to get a Canadian Happy Meal for a scavenger hunt with a few classmates. When we went back across, the border guard asked us how long we were in Canada for. We looked at our watches and said 'bout an hour'. That dude looked in the car at young punks and stoners with various complexions. We had a bale of hay, traffic cones, and other assorted scavhunt things in the car. We and our car got disassembled by the US Border cops. Canada was cool though.

Our annual destination was Ottawa for the tulips. That was my favorite Canadian city - gallery always had a spectacular show that time of year, and nobody there was buying cool records during the late 70's so I cleaned up!

In the 80's I did a lot in Ottawa - booking shows, and helping organize all-ages punk shows etc. There was a swingin' little underground and people came from Montreal and Kingston too.
