That they got Crofts is no surprise, but Seals? No!

I knew it! I knew it! I knew there was something creepy about Seals and Crofts!

My parents are Baha’i. Converted about 10 years ago. My father was a Methodist minister.
  6:04pm

After years of pale imitations, FINALLY the real Seals and Crofts and the Baha’i make the MMC playlist. Hallelujah!

At least we’re not hearing “Unborn Child.”
  6:05pm

oh no
  6:06pm
ron-ji:

Shelby, that sounds like a fascinating twist (from Methodist minister to Baha’i).
  6:06pm
ShelbyG:

The Baha’i are imprisoned in Iran for their beliefs. Now. I’m not Baha’i. But. A cult?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm
micah:

shelby its a NRM so it qualifies for MoMC
  6:08pm
ron-ji:

Not everything Micah plays represents a (bad) “cult,” as his weekly intro explains.

ron-ji: it is…but, I’ve had many, many conversations with my parents about the Baha’i faith — it’s a different take on religion, for sure. It’s never felt cultish to me. And I’m a confirmed atheist (as are many PK’s)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm
ultradamno:

Still, this is as torturous as anything a cult has inflicted on anyone

that was some peak MoMC
  6:11pm
ShelbyG:

I guess I would just appreciate some sensitivity. My parents are not crazy cultists.
  6:11pm
ron-ji:

That’s good to hear. I remember listening to an interview with a member (neither Seals nor Crofts) who made it sound pretty appealing and definitely not culty. But yes, clearly a New Religious Movement.

The Ba'ab [sp?] is, as Micah said, _not_ J.R. "Bob" Dobbs, but old SubGenius tapes at least once took Bahai propaganda tapes and removed all the "The"s. It worked pretty well, especially the '[…]to bring a springtime in the hearts of men.'.

I'm never quite sure just how much of his own stuff Crowley believed.

I'm sure that he believed that it kept him in money and sex-partners for awhile, and that was enough. Eventually, though, I gather he had to live off Jack Parsons and selling his seed as life-extension pills, after blowing through both his offerings and his initial beer fortune….
