Stanley. Yes indeed. Today was the kind of day I wanted to put in a bottle, golden sunshine and long shadows. I looked out of the train window and there were lots of hot air balloons over the fields. It was very lovely.

Pageant Girls wasn't on Bandcamp that I could find.

David, locally we have been trying to breed mosquitoes large enough to offer romantic sightseeing flights. I think we're almost there. Though this afternoon I've lost so much blood I might not live to see it.

Would it kill one of these birds to eat some damn mosquitoes?
Avatar 🦇 3:45pm
Julie:

No I had to get it from AMZ but it's streaming lots of places. Hopefully when the album comes out it'll be on bandcamp!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm
Stanley:

Sounds wonderful, David. It's a special time of year.
  3:46pm

What ho Mx Bee.

Handy, suddenly I’m feeling glad I couldn’t be the garden with you and Kate and Mariano. I would have looked like a pin cushion by the end of it.
Avatar 🦇 3:47pm

oh man every time I go upstate I'm outside for all of five minutes and I come back with bites
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:49pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Yeah, after Ida blew through, a gazillion of mosquitos hatched.
Hi, David.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:50pm

One "neighbor" here had filled a giant kiddie pool for her [redacted] kid. It is now just a big Ida mosquito hatchery.

i've been meaning to relisten to this record, i remember hearing it in my mom's car when it came out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm
Stanley:

I don't quite understand. The hurricane blew in the mosquitos or the water it left was perfect for the resident variety?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:02pm
Handy Haversack:

The latter, Stanley.

I have had to retreat. I am going to need to get some alcohol in the bloodstream if I'm going to stand a chance out there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm
Stanley:

Thanks Handy. Was worried that it could be blowing in denge.
And it's well known alcohol is their worst enemy

I was thinking, "Wow, these guys really captured the sound of Pink Floyd!" HA HA!!!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:14pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

OK, the Cherie Currie track (which was great!) got me curious to look up some more recent interviews. I'm way behind in many ways, and I was impressed to hear that Kim Fowley actually called her to apologize for how he behaved back then. I may have to revise my opinion of him…
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
Handy Haversack:

Julie, outdoor Creek and Kills show on 10/14?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:16pm
Handy Haversack:

With Yo Kinky!
  4:20pm
David in London:

Mx Bee, please don’t revise it. Kim Fowley, without a challenger within ten country miles, was the worst gig I have ever seen. Ever. In the history of the world. Ever. If he ever comes to Stoke Newington, he’s leaving in an ambulance.
Avatar 🦇 4:20pm
Julie:

I believe Kim passed a few years back
  4:22pm
David in London:

Oh yes Julie, I had forgotten. I’m loathe to speak ill of the deceased, but he was what we in England call a complete wanker.
Avatar 🦇 4:22pm
Julie:

not only did he die, he left his body to be photographed for some corpse fetish magazine. ICK.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:22pm
Mx. Baba Bee (e/they):

DiL: noted! It's only a minor revision, anyway. I have a list of rock stars, most held in higher esteem than Kim, who have never ever come close to apologizing or admitting they had exploited their power over young girls…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm
StringOFperils:

But he'd consider coming back, if he gets total creative control, and the money people stay out of the studio.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:24pm
Handy Haversack:

At least we have Sandy Denny. She is far more than we deserve.
  4:26pm
David in London:

Julie, I notice that live Elton was recorded at the Shaw Theatre. The Shaw had (and still has) this groovy metallic sculpture thing outside which as a kid I used to think was an old satellite.

Geez I'm such a Beatletard it's hard to grasp not being supersaturated in it all...
HDN is B&W with the train. & it's Pattie Boyd.
Help! suffers primarily by comparison to HDN. But as halfway between HDN & YellowSub it makes sense. Also - as precursor to Monkees & Batman on TV, it's that...
This track is powerful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm

from what i read, help! is just the milking of the hard day's night concept, only with even less of a plot and beatles who were not into it at all.
-fulfilling a contractual obligation.

It's true Townshend was out ahead of the band conceptually & as a symphonic thinker. The production was dense. But other than the instrument tracks - Quadrophenia is full of great songs. Rev Rab, do you know the short story "Won't Get Fooled Again," by Jim Shepard? In Love and Hydrogen. Excellent writing.

From a review:

"In "Won't Get Fooled Again," he sets his sights on The Who, the famous English rock quartet that made history when guitarist/main songwriter Pete Townshend wrote the sad musical fable called Tommy. The opening line, "We were the great group for things going wrong. Cancellations, electrical failures, bad weather, broken-down vans, missed dates, slashed thumbs, broken noses, sprained knees, bugger-all equipment, beggary, rookery, penury, and out-and-out thuggery: all just a part of the tag-along high-speed death march that called itself The Detours/The High Numbers/The Who." This is The Who; Shepard nailed them. It's doubtful whether he ever actually interviewed the band - everything he talks about is common knowledge, available in any music encyclopedia - but his distillation of the information, the way he bores into the heads of the various members, is chillingly honest and breathlessly perfect.

The truly engaging angle of the story is that it's narrated by bassist John Entwistle (the author spells the surname as Entwhistle and it's curious whether he did this on purpose or just didn't know), the least visible and verbal of the members."
