Welcome to the Old Codger show for today. Since we were ordered a few months ago to broadcast from the WFMU studios in Jersey City, rather than in our preferred location—Courtney's poutin' shanty in East Orange—we refer to this and recent shows as "remote broadcasting."
Avatar 12:49pm
Davee:

Well, I am glad you are broadcasting either way

Gus Bodenheim will debut a new feature on tonight's program. He's attempting to move beyond announcing commercials. This will be his first shot at biographical profiles of little-known musicians.

Still in New Orleans Hurricane Exile that morphed into an improvised road trip a fortnight ago. Stayed outside Ashland, KY yesterday, traveled US60 and passed through Winchester and Lexington, KY today, and then we're in Louisville to see friends for two days starting tomorrow. Then maybe home via family in Nashville next week. But still working online every day -- some work, some driving, some seeing stuff along the way, every day. Long days... Up at 6:45am to work this morning, so we could get driving at 10...

Zeppo was a fine comedian and sometimes subbed-in successfully for Groucho. Before summoned into the act (when Gummo was drafted for the Great War) he worked days on the Ford assembly line and at night used his car-making skills to help him steal cars…so it's no surprise that he became a good agent after leaving the act.

He was a much better romantic lead than any of the saps the Brothers employed after he left.

What time of week was the highest quality build at a US auto plant? Tuesday late morning or Wednesday afternoon?
Avatar 7:19pm
(Murakami Whywolf))):

ledzeppelinsucks:
I can't remember what I read: I think Zeppo worked either in Detroit or in Camden, N.J..

I can't find it now, but I see that I misremembered the story, and the facts are even more credible: Zeppo was a _mechanic_ for Ford, and throughout his life was a tinkerer and inventor. Someone who fixes cars is in a much better position to learn how efficiently to steal them than someone on the line.

I'm pretty sure it was either Monday afternoon (hope springing again in their breasts!) or Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday and Thursday, _terrible_. Friday morning o.k., Friday afternoon bad, people skipping-out or slightly drunk.

I once went to lunch at a burger place that served a lot of linemen working for A Major Phone Company. I was appalled at the amount of drinking, only later realising that most of them had already finished work for the day.
